Gaz96
Has anyone tried wrapping an innertube round there bottom tube? If so does it work that well, i know it wont prevent dents but does it keep the bike from scratching and paint chipping?
N.Wood
It does to an extent yeah.

CalopS
If it doesn't stop dents then whats the point? It'll look a lot uglier than a few scratches

Gibbon on an Orange 2
Never tried inner tube, however we used to use a section of old tyre. Worked great for preventing scratches and has a tad more dent protection than a bit of inner tube.
dannytrialskid
I wrapped about 3 layers of innertube around my 'left side chainstay' and it's has prevented scratches and the innertubes are still in tact! - Most likely because I haven't actually hit it for the inner tube to split buy hey ho still works well! liam n
I don't see the point, if your trying to stop scratches your trying to stop your bike looking ugly? and if u're going to put a manky tyre or innertube round ur bike it's GOING to look ugly. there for why bother ,just ride your bike, have fun and don't think about scratches but if ur gunna do something get a pro carbon protector, much better idea

liam n
Maybe he is thinking about re-sale value? but scratches won't make a HUGE difference, aslong as there's no dents shouldn't take off any more than £10:P dents on the other hand and cracks
Azarathal
As previously said, why prevent scratches on something you're never going to see due to protectors?
Dwarf Shortage
As previously said, why prevent scratches on something you're never going to see due to protectors? If I was starting out and had a shiny new bike, I'd protect it until I learnt to ride it a bit better, and prevent a shit-ton of scratches, so I could take it off when I was half decent, and be like "Ooooooh yeahhhhhhh.". Gaz96
Well 9 times out of 10 I ride solo so I dont mind having an 'ugly' looking innertube round my bike. It's more for if I go on group rides or whatever, I will take it off and I have a nice looking bike rather than a scratched up thing. CalopS
You will still have dents in your frame though. I'm failing to see your logic? Just buy a carbon downtube protector, then you get no dents and they look good! and your frame will last longer.

Jamie_Trials
Sorry it's unclear, heres 2 more I just took. Frame's scrached, dented and cracked all the way around. If theres one thing I regret it's not buying a proper protector. In fact, I had NO hesitation weather to buy a protector or not after seeing my old frame just mess up so easily. PaRtZ
you could use another frame to protect your frame that you ride. or a garden hose? or if you're really posh, fire retardant aeroquip hose. Possibilities are endless really. Myabe even (if you can get it big enough) just some high pressure fuel lines for a car/van?
