Bigman
There certainly is, I have not seen any pictures yet but I am sure that they will be about soon, there are going to be 2 versions, 1 with a standard headtube and then another version which has a taper headtube, with a 1 1/8th upper headset cup and an 1.5inch lower headset cup, the second version is being sold as a frame set with a headset and pair of forks to match up with the headtube. rab shropshire
what are the benefits of having the smaller bottom headset cup and taper forks. i have seen alot of xc bikes / forks with this but never understood why?
Bigman
what are the benefits of having the smaller bottom headset cup and taper forks. i have seen alot of xc bikes / forks with this but never understood why? You mean a larger lower cup, benefits is that the forks can have a larger steerer tube which should make it stronger, also means the headtube is slightly larger meaning a larger weld area with the downtube etc. It will be good to see how well it turns out! Oli P
what are the benefits of having the smaller bottom headset cup and taper forks. i have seen alot of xc bikes / forks with this but never understood why? It is larger bottom headset cup, I believe it is just to add strength. Edit: beaten to it. Edited December 5, 2010 by Oli P
Mark W
I don't know if they actually make one, but I just tried to imagine how monumentally huge the lower cup of a taper-headtube FSA Pig would be and almost blacked out. Should be interesting seeing how that turns out though. Part of me's happy that people are branching out, but part of me's not so happy about standardised stuff becoming non-standardised (purely from a 'selling stuff to people' way). Ali C
I think this is a good idea, I am surprised it's taken this long to get a company to try it, if I could make frame I would have tried it years ago, trials seems the perfect application for a tapered steerer! rab shropshire
got myself mixed up larger bottom cup, yeah i guess i can see the advantage of it now, not too sure how well it will go down with the trials comunity, maybe its going to be the next big thing. but its allways good to see new things coming to trials such as rockman with this and echo with the spanish BB

Matt Burrows
another version which has a taper headtube, with a 1 1/8th upper headset cup and an 1.5inch lower headset cup That's awesome news. I'm the same as Ali, I wanted to do this years ago. You only need to look at how thick steerer tubes have become on trials forks to realise the tube diameter isn't big enough! Should be a bit lighter and stronger, tests have shown them to be much stiffer as well. Would be perfect for use with magnesium frames and forks where stiffness is an issue. Jon Alty
Get your orders in! http://www.competitivecyclist.com/product-components/2010-chris-king-tapered-nothreadset-6661.272.0.html May be tempted to buy the tapered vesion, however im guessing it will be the more expensive version (more CNC?), and im unsure of how much difference it will make. MK999
I don't know if they actually make one, but I just tried to imagine how monumentally huge the lower cup of a taper-headtube FSA Pig would be and almost blacked out. Not sure if it's sold as a taper but they certainly make a 1.5" version, FSA big fat pig, have one on mine as the mission reefer seems to be the only trials bike in the world to run a 1.5" headset Seem pretty rare but found on here in the US: http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/17313-205_FSABP8-3-parts-63-headsets/FSA-The-Big-Fat-Pig-1.5-Headset.htm

Mark W
Not too sure atm (all the info's on Adam's computer), but I know we've got both versions of that frame turning up in a week or so. Should be interesting to see them 'in real life'.
