omgnoseat
Hello, Went on a ride this friday. My hope mono trial (front) began to feel kind of spongy, but I didn't suspect anything weird since it was wet, thought some mud might have come on the disc or something. Then suddenly while pressing the brake all pressure was lost. The weird thing is that it still locks if I absolutely press the lever to the bars. No signs of leaks aswell. When I lost the pressure it felt as if something "exploded", I rode through some junk so I couldn't hear if anything fell of the lever, it was dark so I couldn't look on the ground aswell. I don't seem to be missing anything, but it could still be a possibility that I'm missing something. I'll take some picture's of the lever tomorrow. Anyone has any idea what it could be? Thanks in advance
Alex Dark
sounds like you ripped through all the threads on the brass barrel in the lever. Is the lever really close to the bar before you pull it? I had the same kind of problem on my diatech anchor rear brake, turned out to be a shite bleed, and i think an air pocket moved...meant my lever went from 25mm ish from the bar, to squeezing into the grip!. Will Arnold
a friends old hope c2 did this, the friction material came off the metal backing, worth a look!

The lever shows no different behaviour other than having no pressure. a friends old hope c2 did this, the friction material came off the metal backing, worth a look! The what came off the what? Could you explain a bit more? Caliper may have cracked? Will check, seems unlikely though, felt like it had to do with the lever.

omgnoseat
http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?product_id=341&category_id=110 Where in the lever is that located?

The Gold bit!! http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/images/custom/brakes/large_tartytrialsllev.jpg Thought it might be something inside the lever, out of view? I've made some picture's: After a second glance, I do get greasy (black) vingers after rubbing the red circled area. The blue area might have a crack? But it could just be a thin space where the hose thingy meets. I see a small opening in the red circled area, is there supposed to be something there? Or is it used for something else? Azarathal
In the second picture with the red circle, isn't that where the brass barrel goes? I might be wrong as I don't own this brake and I'm only going by pictures.
Krisboats
Yeah it is, though pictures with the light switched on would probably help. Looks like your brass thing is still there though, but again... the lighting is so bad i can't tell 100%

How moist is a leak? The bleed nipple (i think? first picture thingy) is very greasy, but not exactly moist.
multi tasking male
have you ckecked to see that the friction material has not come away from the pad backings ? just look down the middle of your caliper where the disk goes through and squeeze the lever and see if there is material there or just metal backings. chris

The Dot fluid is very thin but has a very distinct feeling to it, almost like bbq lighter fluid and it has a very obvious smell to it, even the smallest amount on your finger will smell quite strong. Alright, interesting to know, will help me out to discover a leak for sure I had the brake fixed, turned out the "90 degree rotation something" (literal translation from dutch) was broken, something in the caliper. I just had the brake returned but the lever travel is quite horrible. The rotor isn't aligned exactly in the center and I have new pads, will see how it feels when I use some washers and have it broken in. Is there any way to adjust the reach, like a tpa? Thanks! casualjoe
There's a grub screw in the brass barrel to adjust reach.

There's a little screw by the blade. It's a 2.5 or 2 mm allen screw. It allows you to adjust lever reach, but it doesn't work like a TPA in that it moves the pads closer to the rotor. If you want that, you have to buy the new hope, with all the knobs and shit on it.
