PaRtZ
So I've run out of money to pay for car tax. I get paid at the end of the month... (midnight of the 29th) After reading this from the dvla, If I apply for my tax disc on the 29th (after 5pm) I assume my account wont be debitted instantly, unless the government banks with the same bank as me..... THUS I get it logged on the morning of the 30th that Ive paid my tax on their system, and they start issuing my tax disc etc. Then they can debit me, and according to that page, its now not illegal to not display a tax disc within the first 5 working days of the month. Sound like a plan?

Sound like a plan? It should work, but on the off chance it goes through quicker you'll be in the shit - what about just borrowing the money for a day? PaRtZ
Yeah thats my alternative... ask the girlfriend (parents are a bit skint and I already owe them alot, im trying to show I can manage my money....) but I really don't want to do that
JD™
I'd risk it then, if you're not up for borrowing the money then chance it. IF it does go tits up, you generally have until about 3pm on the day you go overdrawn to fix it before they charge you. In that case, you should be fine. AdamR28
At the time of making payment, the processor checks there's enough cleared funds in the account, so even though it doesn't clear for 2-3 days the payment *shouldn't* work... But then again it's a government-run website so
RobinJI
Why not just buy it in on the 30th? Could even go into a post office and have it sorted there and then.

Do it online on the 30th if you miss the post office Our local post office closes at 6, its only 3 mins walk from work though.
tomturd
I wouldn't worry about it too much, mine ran out for a few weeks before I noticed it. I think I ended up backpaying it. Just don't get spotted in the mean time.
