Just picked up a thrustmaster warthog hotas on fleabay for 175 quid, blokes even chucking in a copy of DCS A10C for me :)

Ok so 175 quid for a joystick to casually play flight sims is probably a bit daft but Im used to my old thrustmaster setup (this is now 18 years old and still going) but unfortunately MS are wankers and removed all gameport support from w7 :(

Having got used to a 128 button programmable hotas I bit the bullet and bought a modern usb one, just happened to get it near half price :D

[edit]

Don't worry now. Purchased a Mixamp and xbox hdmi adapter for the optical. Now just gotta decide which headphones to spend out on.

Hardware anyone? Posted this on another forum i use. But thought i'd try here too.

I wondered if anyone can help me on the quest for a headset setup.

My current setup is normal white 360 with no optical, Audio Technica M50, and standard xbox mic Sticking%20Out%20Tongue.png

The M50 sucks for soundstage from the TV (as guessed), and game sound and voice isn't very well separated, and even with the voice level maxed and game sounds low it's still kinda hard listening to vital call outs within a game.

So i need a new setup. I looked at the Mixamp, but i'm not convinced the price of £130 is worth it, bearing in mind a new headphone and mic on top... I don't think the amp's power will make considerable amount of difference to the soundstage of the M50?? Considering it doesn't seem to kick out that well compared to other cheaper dedicated amps. I do have Optical on my TV, but will the HDMI carry all the information through required for a Surround sound, and then output it?

How are these all in one headsets? The ability to raise and lower the voice chat along with game sounds is ideal, but £150 for some PC360's for example, i'm not sure after reading reports of them not offering the quality in comparison to the M50, again as an example.

I do like the sound of buying a new headphone with clip on mic. Not sure what yet, but something circumaural and open would be a nice addition for my music.

Are there any other devices like the Mixamp around? Or other ideas would be most welcome.

Many thanks.

I hope GTA V doesn't run like shit like IV did. I know my spec is a few years old but IV really should have been optimised better.

EDIT: Just finished Max Payne 3. Was not disappointed. Few little things that annoyed me but overall it was a very enjoyable game, decent story length and a the story was actually alright (to me anyway). Yes it can be repetitive shooting endless amounts of enemies but this is MAX PAYNE. Some nice game mechanics too, I won't spoil all of it for people but there this one bit where you can do a forward slow mo dive then slide down the middle of escalators with your guns blazing.

Got a kinect? Skyrim kinect is awesome...

Well I say awesome, its only voice control, but basically most things in the game can be controlled without pressing a button, all of the menus can be selected, quick lists for weapons, abilities and skill and the like; really adds another depth of immersion to the game being able to shout "fus ro dah" at the tv

This is of course assuming youre playing on xbox :$

Buuump.

Anyone else playing Far Cry 3? I'm loving it, got it on PC. Been a fan of it since the first Far Cry game, pretty happy to see how much it's progressed since the first one in terms of graphics. This game is so pretty to look at, even at only high settings, highest being very high which just cripples my system. It's by no means perfect, the menu system really bugs me and not overly keen on the skills unlock system but overall it's very fun to play and definitely an improvement from Far Cry 2.

Yup, completed the main story last night. Not tried any of the online stuff but I'll probably sell my copy pretty soon once I feel I've 'finished' it.

It's a massive improvement over Far Cry 2, the plot is much better too (but perhaps a little predictable)!

Played on the Xbox so graphics wise it's pretty good, I expect the PC version to be epic though.
