l33th3tr33
Hey guys, I've just brought a set of cranks and they came with a sprocket and bash, which I didn't realise. I've tried to get the sprocket off and it just won't budge, tried the chain in the vice, even the sprocket itself in the vice. Need to get this off to get a freewheel on the crank. Any suggestions? If it helps, they're try all cranks, czar bash and trialtech 18 tooth sprocket.

If that failed, the local bike shop should be able to help.

Luke Dunstan
Tried that as well, but with a hefty bit of wood. The sprocket kept slipping in the vice. I'd try the bike shop then. I've never asked the question before, so I don't know whether heating it up would do more damage than good?

Hopefully one of the tarty boys will be able to help.
Ali C
wrap a chain around the cog, but leave a link out so it looks a little something like this (but round) ------------^--------------- That little triangle will offer more grip in the vice and hold the cog solid. Then you want a nice long pole you can fit over the crank (an old frame work well too). Then the cog should come off with no problems. I think I know what you mean, will have a go in a sec. Finally done it! Tried an old frame but flared the headtube slightly And the found one of my scaffold wheels and used that, came off perfectly. Thanks Ali!
