24" Handlebars Recommendations After Gusset Breakage

Hello,

Today whilst bunnyhopping up onto a wallride ledge thing I managed to snap my gusset open prison bars of only 3-4 months age. Thank f**k they didn't go on the 9ft drop I was considering otherwise I might have seriously injured myself. As in stands I only incured a long gash to my brake finger as i pulled the snapped bar into myself. I also broke the cables on both my hope and magura brakes <_< I used these bars because when I previously used braced versions, they bent rather than snapped. These ones obviously didn't which is very disappointing.

Anyway, regarding my future plans I haven't even really been putting the bike through its paces yet. I really want to push my riding over the next few months which means I'm going to have to avoid the gusset bars again. I checked previous posts on 24" bars and people only seemed to be recommending bars I consider to be relatively weak. Has anyone got any recommendations on some very strong bars? I guess the obvious question is, "what does Danny Mac use?".

Material that has a tendency to bend rather than snap is preferable. Weight isn't so much of an issue - within reason. Has to be at least a 2" rise but 3" is prefered.

Thanks in advance for any advice on the matter. I'm really lost by myself with regard to what's about and 'good' these days.

I think Danny Mac uses prototype shimano bars or new inspired protos, he used to use Raceface Atlas i think.

Danny's bars are really 'flat'. Very downhillery, so they might not feel great if you're not used to that kind of shape.

I don't know which topic you were refering to, but I'd imagine the bars people were recommending were Inspired or Trialtech High Rise bars? If so, I'd still consider them pretty strong. Ali's Inspired bars lasted him for a long, long time without bending or breaking, and the Trialtech bars are just higher versions of the Sport bars that have proven themselves too. The original prototype Sport bars were lighter than the production ones and none of them broke, but Trialtech made them quite a bit more beefed up for the production version just to be sure. That's why so many sell, and virtually none ever come back. The actual quality of them is good too, which could be where the Gusset bars fall down. Gusset stuff never really screams 'quality' to me, so even though they might be heavy/thick, that might not really make them strong (Especially if you've broken them so quickly).

If you're still not keen on the TT bars, then the Inspired bars should definitely be fine. Stronger and heavier, but still with about 3.5" of rise (off the top of my head...).

Just to add, I've snapped a set of Gusset bars as well. They were the Prison-R bars, I don't know if they were weaker than yours but they were still damn heavy. I wasn't that impressed with them though, and have managed to snap most bars that others think are strong.

My Inspired bars seem really good though and have lasted well so far, I don't think you will be disappointed :)

The posts I saw regarded azonic and easton bars. Inspired bars weren't mentioned. Anyway, your word is gospel Mark - inspired bars ordered. Any snappage is on you!

Was that post from 2005 or something? :P But yeah, I doubt you'll have any issues with the Inspired bars at all :) May feel a little different to your Gusset bars but shouldn't be anything major (Y)

Shiny new lever to go on your shiny new bars too - bonus!

I ran the tweet tweet bars and they were amazing.

I also had a pair of these, felt amazing, but bent after a month or so! I couldn’t get anything back on warranty or anything either because apparently I "must have been misusing them"

But got trial techs now and they are spot on (Y)
