Miles Mallinson
FiveTen Impact low, they are amazingly grippy and last for ages, they are really stiff and a bit clumpy it depends what riding you wanna do really. 5.
Gibbon on an Orange 2
FiveTen Impact low, they are amazingly grippy and last for ages, they are really stiff and a bit clumpy it depends what riding you wanna do really. 5.10 Seconded for the five tens. I've got the Marzocchi versions which are half way between the 5:10 low and the 5:10 high but the soles are the same. So much grip you've actually got to take your foot off the pedal if you want to repossition it. Great support too so even small pedals don't put pressure on your foot. They'll last you ages as a riding shoe. Anything you hear to say they wear out fast is from people who've used them as regular shoes and the soles are too soft a coumpound for this. Ali C
I use mine (five10 freeriders) for everyday use and I have had them 6-7 months and there is loads of life left in them yet (plus they are simply the grippiest shoe you can get, once worn in though, they become a little easier to get the feet off the pedals)
davidbarr
What about the try-all shoes? Are they any good?

I think 5.10 have a few dj style shoes with less grip so you can actually do feet off the bike moves.
Ali C
mine were like that to begin with, pretty scary at times, but now they are worn to the pedals and allow some movement. I am very tempted by the new Dirtbags Fiveten are making.
Mark W
The new Baron shoes FiveTen are doing are designed with a new microdot sole to try and make them a bit 'better' for flat pedals in that sense. Thinner, more flexible sole too. It's that stiffness that puts me off FiveTens now. I love wearing Vans for riding because they're super thin, and I hate not being able to feel what's going on with my bike. I even hate wearing new Vans at first because they're just that little bit stiffer when new. If they rolled their microdot sole out onto other shoes I'd be tempted, pity they're only doing it on the red ones for now /\ That be the sole. /\ That be the shoe. Ali C
just you wait....just you wait. In related news (by related, I mean I want to comment on your exact comment above which is related quite a lot). I found Vans to be too thin, I could feel the edges of the pedal on my foot, this made my feet cramp a little, but also took away my confidence cos I was scared of jumping off the bike and hurting my feet. Plus the grip is shocking in the wet as my shins would show you.

Yeh skate shoes are abit confidence reducing like falling off a big gap and having to put your foot on a really sharp edge isn't very nice at times then when you put the 5.10s on and do this you can't feel it at all. I kind of like the softness of a skateshoe, so you can move your feet around for balance, in a perfect world i'd have 5.10 grip, quality and sole hardness and a skate shoes flexiableness (is that a word i'm not sure) maybe those Barons are that kind of thing! Mark W
In fairness, if you spend the same amount on a pair of skate shoes as you would on a pair of FiveTens, you can get vulcanised soles with shock absorption bits in the heel/midsole too... ZeroMatt
I got some MP90s from a US shop and so far have found them way nicer than the 3 pairs of FiveTens I've had and about 1/3rd the price aswell.
