Laurence--Trials
I broke my rear disc the other day (for those who dont know.) and i was looking though ebay and came across this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Alligator-Titanium-Coated-Disc-Rotor-160mm-NEW-/290498161133?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item43a30a29ed#ht_1772wt_1008 "High Grade Stainless Steel With Wind-Cutter Titanium Coated" "88 grams" "160mm" I was wondering if i'd be good for trials, what makes the Ti' coated good/bad? and if this rotor is strong? - looks it.. Thanks, Laurence.
AdamR28
It's Ti-N coated (Titanium Nitride) - the same stuff they use on parts that are designed to have good wear resistance... ie. be very slippery! I know someone who had one and it just refused to work unfortunately.

I know someone who had one and it just refused to work unfortunately. I was thinking along similar lines. It does make one wonder what is the point of it? Esp. since the process no doubt isn't going to be cheap as chips?
AdamR28
So it looks cool (depending on your taste, of course).
Alex Dark
In other news if you have the patience to use them for a while they are pretty good once the ti-nitride has worn off the braking surface.
Mark W
Or you could just get the non-Ti-nitride coated version?

How long does it take to wear off. and when wearing it off does it contaminate your pads? Could you sand it off? Or you could just get the non-Ti-nitride coated version? Cant afford it :$ got literally next to no money atm. buy this linky Are they good? and strong? whats the weight? 149g Edited November 12, 2010 by Laurence--Trials

Mark W
It's been a long week, leave me alone I used one on the front and had no problems with it. Then again, I haven't really had any problems with any rotor I've used so that's not really saying too much, haha.

Alex Dark
Just buy a rotor off CRC for a tenner... dont piss round with ebay and its 1-3weeks delivery
Revolver
Just buy a rotor off CRC for a tenner... dont piss round with ebay and its 1-3weeks delivery This. You're never going to find a rotor that's indestructible. To make it unbendable means making it brittle. Just buy a bog standard one, it doesn't make any difference. Monty99
Or you could just get the non-Ti-nitride coated version? which offers the best maximum brake power i have experienced... but a pretty bad modulation compared to Magura or Hope rotors. I like mine...

I like mine... Oo... i'm probally dont to try this, if i dont like it i'll sand down/ get rid of the Ti - N somehow.. Will check out CRC though. Muel
I've had loads over the years, the best performing I had are the MK2 Mono Trial ones. Had a 200mm on my last "proper" bike, it was silly powerful. If you want cheap and light, these are the same as Rockman ones: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=34976 I once had a 180mm Rockman but never got round to using it, so don't know how well they perform.
