joeyboyy
hi guys, been doing some research as I'm trying to figure out what frame I should get for my first trials build. any suggestions? around £200 - £300 is my budget. thanks a lot Joe
trials owns
how much trials experience have you had? i wouldn't spend that much if you are learning and gathering the basics as they are bound to get dented, scratched etc
davidbarr
Don't spend that much. You could get a 2010 onza comp or blade frame for 170-180. Or an 09 onza blade frame for 120.

If you have 200 - 300 to spend, go for zoo lynx or echo lite 09. But theyre right^, if you havent been riding long, go for onza compor blade. light and cheap. l33th3tr33
Just make sure whatever frame you get, that it takes a 19" rear wheel, and mountings for the brakes you wish to run. So not an onza rip.

How much have you got to spend on the bike altogether? There isn't much point getting an expensive frame and rubbish parts.
joeyboyy
overall budget is £1100 - £1250
l33th3tr33
With £2-300 to spend, just wait until you're validated and you'll get a decent bike for that. It's not worth buying a frame alone and crap parts to put on it, or realising how much the rest of the bike actually costs when it's too late. EDIT: with a budget THAT big, DEFINITELY wait until you're validated. You WILL get a decent bike for that amount! davidbarr
dude, i just built a bike on tartybikes using an echo lite frame. It has a decent spec and it would cost 785 quid.

I still say go with echo lite 09 or zoo lynx frame.

joeyboyy
thanks for the input guys. I'll look into those frames. Joewhat are the main advantages of using a 20" over a 26". because ive only ever tried 26". thanks
Jon Alty
thanks for the input guys. I'll look into those frames. Joe what are the main advantages of using a 20" over a 26". because ive only ever tried 26". thanks 20" is way easier to learn on. Smaller + easier to handle, better feel on the back wheel + alot more flicky (spins). Cant roll stuff as easy, but 20" is what u want if you want to learn. Also as said before, i would be looking at getting a GOOD second hand bike, which is already a bit beaten up, as its only gonna take u a few weeks to beat up a bike a bit, and it will save u loads. £400 will get u a damn nice 20" (aka mod). sandeeebeach219
thanks for all your help guys, really appreciate it Yeh thats a good plan, getting a 2nd hand one. But equally, if you would prefer to start with a brand new bike, go for it. I dont know how long you've been riding, but if youre just starting, it probably would be better to get a 2nd hand mod as you can try crazy things on it and not be too worried about scratches and that. By the way ive just validated you so you can come over to the trials chat for more advice if you need it.
Kieran Morrison
Just make sure whatever frame you get, that it takes a 19" rear wheel, and mountings for the brakes you wish to run. So not an onza rip. Echo kids also dont take 19" rear wheels. The best choice at that price is the Onza Comp, 100%. Fantastic frame, nice light and strong. Another is a zoo lynx or an echo lite. Agreed,i'm just starting again and wanted something of seasonale quality and have managed to get a koxx levelboss 1065 spec with bits almost entirely from the forum for no more than 250,probably much less. Its all a bit scratched and the frame is fairly old but its all quality stuff that's cheap so if i dont get back into it i'll not lose much if any money.get it all on here, either in bits or as a whole bike.if you see a bargain you can contact the person by clicking there name and posting on their wall like facebook.not sure if i should say that? But dont buy an expensive now frame to start out, you'll either worry to much about scratching it so wont try stuff or will get so naffed off you'll wish you'd bought cheap til you were better! Kieran Morrison
Through experience? Yup, had a go on a few of them they are amazing! I take the echo thing back, if your getting a zoo or an echo, GET the zoo, its stronger and better for newbies. As if your new the echo will dent easy and scratch as its much weaker. Except for that they are the exact same frames geometry-wise.
