dann2707
I believe that would be a grind!
monty-james
I remember when i asked this question when i first came back to the forum and i got hated for it, ahh well. Although i use tar, a good grind is better because it is good in most weather conditions. Tar, however, is only DECENT in the summer months which isnt for very long in England. So if its dry your in look but in wet, it turns into big, wet sloppy, pooey, liquid dookie. Hope that helped though
markmac25
My rims are grinded and they are just awsome! never used tar but does it not get a bit messy and doesnt work as well in wet??

Not really messy as its only used when its in a solid block form and not actually runny! In the wet it's poo though as it kinda turns to liquid/mixes with water and you get a shitty black liquid on your rim that makes your brake actually worse. Yeah, i have seen people use the tar and now i remember the black solid bloch they had, kinda spreads in uneven amounts on the rim also when put on. grind works better in my view
fatwomble
This is a new one on me, from what I have seen above it is likely that I'm going to have to grind my rims (unless using discs). Is there a guide to how it should be done / what they should look like. Taking a grinder to anything is a scary thing, especially when it's something that you are relying on to hold you up. Any advice appreciated thanks.

pezza p
Good grind and a few spots of tar and it is working amazing
dann2707
If you do the grind right and use the right pads you shouldn't need tar! Tar just ruins everything
GRISTY
I feel ginds work much better than rim tar, because the grinds last alot longer than the tar and you always know if your brakes are working due to the squeek, which give me alot more confidence in riding knowing your brakes are working properly. trails4lif3
I ride grind and tar with TNNs and my brake works amazing. Kurtis wts the point of grinding your rim you grind your rim for a rougher surface to make your break better then if u put tar on it it is the same as running a smoth rim
Sam T
you grind your rim for a rougher surface - u put tar on it it is the same as running a smoth rim No. I used to run a grind and tar. My pads were never as i wanted them to be so i used tar to bring that extra bit of hold into play. Although it is pointless running tar and a grind. My opoinion is to get a decent grind, nice set of Tnn Lgms and a booster. WIN.
