fathopper
Isn't it what Ryan Leech calls it when you go up with the front wheel then the back wheel follows? Haven't seen the dvd in a while..
Gaz96
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXRSPfdfH-A&feature=related thats a zap tap, he uses the front brake in only one but i find it easier with the front brake so any answers with reasons why would be helpful
Ben John - Hynes
Surely the front brake would stop you? And stopping in that situation isn't what you want?
Revolver
You could get into the pigeon position, and then pull the front brake and scoop the rear wheel up, and then when it's high enough you release the brake to get on. For zap taps though, I think you don't use it.
Ali C
so a zap tap is just rolling up an object?
Ross McArthur
Am I right in saying a Jap Slap is a tap?
Revolver
I think ryan leech came up with these names to confuse us. Tap - ram your front wheel on the edge of the object and use this to get up Roll- up - roll up to the object, raise the front wheel, stick it on there, and suck up the rear wheel, all whilst rolling. Pedal-up - roll towards an object, then raise the front wheel with a pedal kick, follow up with the other pedal and jump at the same time Those are the names I understand, I think it helps that the names sound like what you're doing. Miles Mallinson
Using your front brake on higher things helps but only feather it, yeh Ryan Leech came up with that term.

davidbarr
I wouldn't use yor brake if i was you.
Miles Mallinson
Or you can use your brake to pivot on the front wheel on the wall, sometimes its good to do this when you can't 'zap tap' up it to go across the wall so you have to go straight at the wall and lift your wheel on to it and pivot your front wheel 90 degrees to ride along the wall. konstant
If you're trying to do the move that Ryan Leech has invented and for some strange reason christened the 'zap-tap' then no, don't use your front brake. Otherwise though, the front brake can be really useful for getting up stuff.
