Bigger Sidehops

Its 1000000000(x100) times better going to the opposite side of your foot forward. you see people like cls, damon etc going their right way, except for tunniclife, but he is the only popular rider to be able to go his (what is called by a few mates) his wrong way. Its not really wrong or right, but when i asked this question lots of people said on here that you wont be able to get past a certain height when your going to (say your left foot forward) the left.

Just practise practise practise! Im rubbish at sidehopping but i find my self getting an inch or so higher every day almost.

o.O i allways see that in veideos, however i have my right foot forward and i can ONLY gap to the right, cant even gap like 1 foot to the left :S

Post a few videos? I have never seen them before...

Its called practise, and trust me, practise for one day, and you will get the hang of it.

I did....

i mean in videos everyone side hops the opposite way to that of their front foot.

For example:

Edit: However i do it the other way, hoping to the same side as my front foot (right)

okay then, i sidehop to the left with my right foot foward, so tahts okay. when i am on the back wheel ready to sidehop i need to get my ass as low as possible end then explode like a rocket up in the air? when i´m close to the edge i pull the bike up under me and get my ass very low (side by side to the rear tyre?)?

You need to practice both sides to be flexible, but sidehops to the left or to the right (opposite your front foot or on the side of your front foot) are slightly different moves.

When you sidehop to your back foot side (to the left for you), you tend to aim the full bike over the obstacle (often even landing directly to back wheel). That is because you have a bigger lateral weight transfer to perform (moving your center of gravity) from the right foot support across to your left, and you don't want to miss the edge.

When sidehopping to your front foot side (to the right for you), you lean about one foot closer to the obstacle and have a smaller lateral weight transfer to perform in order to achieve the right balance on top of the obstacle. So it makes it much easier to use the front wheel as a pivot on top of the obstacle to bring the rear wheel up and make the tiny alignment necessary to get some grip with the rear tyre. With this front-foot side technique, you'll end up doing higher sidehops, with more precision than on your back-foot side. :turned:

You'll have more control in the end on your front-foot side. >_<:turned:

I find that only true if you spin/rotate where your back foot pushes to spin, i.e. right foot forward spins counter clockwise.

Me, I'm right RFF, but sidehop consistently to the right. I end up doing like a 45 degree turn towards the object to get on top so if I slip, it slips to the bash ring, and not to the axle/derraileur. I'm far more consistent and can get about headtube height.

If I sidehop to the left, I can go higher but I end up spinning away from the object as I spin CCW, so it ends up being like a tail tap and my front is either just over the edge, or not.. I'm also not nearly as confidant or consistent going to the left, but can get about bar height.

I'm kinda jacked up though because I dominantly pivot CCW, but I spin CW (like if trying to do a 180 or 360) and am RFF. I can't sidehop to front wheel for shit, regardless of the side, so neither of those things really apply and all of my sidehops end up going straight to rear by a huge amount.

I can only really sidehop my 'wrong way'. When i try to do it the 'right' way my front end doesn't come round enough and i end up dipping and faceplanting :L
