casualjoe
One person could have more fun staring at a wall than another person hand gliding over a volcano. Bit extreme but you get what I mean
Mark W
aww, kind words Mark, you will be rewarded at a later date. Sparked by rewatching that gap at the church at Newcastle... From my own POV, from 2000-2005 all I did was TGSy stuff and I definitely enjoyed doing it. I got frustrated with myself for not doing stuff, but that was about it really, and that's the same as I am now. The main thing I find now though is because I'm more open to different things to ride, there's just a lot more shit out there to try different things on. That's why natural's bangin' because there's so much scope for different lines and so on, and I find that more enjoyable to do now rather than just seeing if I could go a bit bigger. If you've got more sides to how you ride and what you ride, the whole going out riding thing becomes a lot more diverse, and you can make the most out of everything. Revolver
That's why natural's bangin' because there's so much scope for different lines and so on, The trouble with me is I go to a place and shit bricks at how many lines there are, and then get annoyed because I can't do them. Ali C
yeah, we have all been guilty of TGSness, I enjoyed it back then, but I always was on the lookout for the unusual stuff too. I don't hate TGS in its self, it's kind of frustrating seeing people limit themselves to that type of riding when there is so much more out there. it's like riding with blinkers on. dirt jumper jake
Sidehopping 9 pallets is something very little riders can actualy do. what, like midgets?
Kieran Morrison
That just went straight over your head lol Ohhhhh now i get marks joke! Haha, i epic failed lolTgs has started to be hated for no reason. Streety riders such as mark, danny mac etc used to be creative and unqiue until everybody joined the 'i want to backflip of a building' bandwagon and now its not unique. The point is, we like what we do and you tgs bashers like what you do, we all have fun and at the end of the day its only trials. But i will agree that 24" riding is waaaay more creative than tgs. But i find tgs fun.
manuel
This thread is full of comedy gold. The tgs/tape thing effects everyone. I've measured stuff I've done in the past, for shure, but its a measurement for only me to reference, there is no point comparing it to anything anyone else can do. For me trials is a deeply personal thing - anything I "achieve" in my riding, like a getting line I've been trying for months, or just bettering my biggest sidehop or tap - its mine whats the point comparing my skills against anyone elses ? danny mac etc used to be creative and unqiue until everybody joined the 'i want to backflip of a building' bandwagon and now its not unique nice, yeah Ive seen millions of trials riders doing that ... Luke Rainbird
To me, TGS is more than just a riding style, it's the attitude that goes with it. I ride pretty regularly with folk like Rich Pearson (sorry to use you as an example dude!) who is pretty much a TGS style rider, but because he does throw in the odd little twang to his riding and puts having fun and enjoying riding above getting that extra inch I really enjoy riding with the guy. In contrast I've been on rides where your stereotypical northern TGS basher has been the main demographic and it's so much more about getting extra height/length/girth that it starts to drain the fun out of it, especially for those that can't go as big as the top couple of people there. I've been quite enjoying pushing myself a little bit more recently and trying some gaps/ups that are a little beyond my capabilities, enjoying the push as much as the next person. Hell, I even did a sidehop the other day! But (now here's the difference so listen up kids...) I'm fully aware of how much more there is to riding than just these things! Trials is almost a way of life for a lot of people and what you ride is only a tiny part of that, the way you fit in to the community is a whole different story... WIGAN ??
I will admit I am a tgs rider but I won't que up at a wall for hours on end just to prove I can do it anyone who rides with me knows I'm creative with my riding it's quite ironic really cos the steriotypical tgs basher can't pull off a decent tap or a decent gap but I'm not out to proove anything to anyone to be honest I'm just bored of doing the same 3 things all day long

Gibbon on an Orange 2
This thread has really cheered me up on this dreary tuesday morning Personally, I'd much rather watch a good smooth rider string together a nice technical section than watch a TGS video. In my riding (of old) yes we would spend a bit of time just doing taps, gaps of sidehops but only as practice to build our skills and techniques before we strung a section together and put them into good use. For me, that's what real trials is about. As Mr Ashton once said, "It's all about practice. Practice practice practice!". TGS for me is this practice, which you then use in trying to clean a section.
