Desmond Derv
Ok so i have bought a nice GU 09 frame but its been used and has a LOT of scratches on it, and some ruff areas, so I have been looking on the internet. I have found I need to strip the old paint (obviously) and then if its galvanised... does that mean a silver frame with no 'finish'? but what do you use to strip it? this site says use 'thinners' as I work for a chemical company I can get some seriously strong thinners but will they destroy the metal at all? then the deep scratches..... will they sand out you think? Then I just use metal primer, few coats of desired colour (when I pick) and some sealer. Any tips hints or bits I have missed out and need to no please help
Matt Vandart
Use nitromorse to get the paint off. Clean it with a bucket of water with detergent in it till there is NO nitromorse left on it. Don't bother sanding the scratches it will make your tube too thin, no need to key it really if it has been painted before. Prime it with acid etch if it is aluminium. Paint it with colour, about three coats will do it. If you can be arsed put some clear coat on it. Leave it dry for 48 hours. Ride it and scratch your lovery new paint job up and ask yourself why you bothered.
PeanuckleJive
Nitromors for stripping it, wear gloves or just avoid getting it on your skin

Endohopper
As stated above for the stripping , as to painting - this well written guide should be of some interest . This frame's second hand ? You suggested it's pretty scratched up , deeply even - before investing the time and effort to strip and paint it be sure to inspect it carefully for any cracks .
