Dec Whiteoak
they work best on a grinded wheel, when the grind wears down a bit of tar helps well.
Canardweb
Blue is just a softer compound mate! Deffinetly go for the Yellows if you go for Heatsink!

I've just bought some yellows, will they be ok on a (just a bout) dead grind?

Laurence--Trials
I've just bought some yellows, will they be ok on a (just a bout) dead grind? Damon uses smooth rim with tar, get some tar on your rim and im sure they'd be good!

Laurence--Trials
No... Get a regrind. what you mean 'no' there not exactly going to be bad if damon uses them, i mean i dont mean to sound like a bum lick (i know i am, fail much?) but he does massive stuff, right? so they've got to be good to hold him! Mikee
I've just bought some yellows, will they be ok on a (just a bout) dead grind? I had my yellows on a dead grind on my 24" bike before I got a new wheel and I was super impressed with them. I found that they held better then on smooth rim but weren't as bitey as they were on a grind so it made it abit more manual friendly. So as it says you ride 24" and if mauals and such are your thing I recommend you try them on your dead grind first. I know that Damon uses them, so they can't be shite... it just doesn't seem right to take a pad that's this good, and then coat your rim in tar... Having a rough braking surface for increased friction makes sense, and would work with the pad's compound. Tar makes pads stick regardless of compound. So that's why I said 'no'. It's probably worth noting that the idea to use tar comes from a while ago when there weren't really aftermarket pads for your magura. One time you had three choices, black ones, red koolstop ones and green frog ones. Now there's sick pads, you shouldn't really neeeed to use it. This is the truth, we used it years ago as there was no other option really. I have yellows on both my bikes with a smooth rim on my mod and light grind on my stock and both work great!
