Go on Ali you tell em! :P I swear by my LGM's, I've never had a brake thats worked so well for so long without any problems whatsoever, and they look the nuts! Can't say I've tried the bealey's, and I dont want to, as I think I've found the best pads out there anyway :)

if your TNN pads were not as good as others, then I suspect there was a problem somewhere in the setup, grind, contamination etc

You rode my yaabaa in leeds that time, you know my tnn setup was good however slipped every so often, granted I dont have the bite the tnn gave me and the feel of the brakes not the same but it holds well on taps and such. Like I said each too there own.

didn't you also have one hell of a harsh grind?

Light grinds eff teee double you

"Recommended Use

Sharp medium grind, dry weather, slightly deeper grind for wet weather".

I had a sharp medium grind as recomended. I'll take your word for it and try a lighter grind when mine die's down a little see if they preform aswell as you say.

may be worth sanding the rim as flat as possible first. No point pitting a light grind on if the old worn medium grind still leaves large troughs and ridges.

I built a new rim for my bike during the week, I stuck a new grind on but because I ride streety I didn't want it to have mega bite or sound, so I tried to put the lightest grind on I could (ask Adam lol). I put the wheel in a vice and spun it, I then put the grinder to the rim sooo lightly if barley left any mark. Needless to say the brake worked too well, so I had to take some sandpaper and sand the grind down. Even now it's still got a bit of a honk to it.

So it works fantastic, only, it won't last too long at all?

How did this compare to a medium grind in terms of bite and lock?

It works very well how long it lasts depends on how often you ride, what conditions and how often you use your brakes. My first light grind lasted a month, but I broke that rim so who knows how long it would have lasted.

I think it works quite a lot better.

I love everyones opinions. its apparent that everyone has an acquired taste when it comes to pads.

I rode the Rockman pads recently for around 10 rides to see what the fuss was about. I found they worked well in dusty conditions but the hold was terrible. I weight 91kg so not many pads can live up to my expectations.

Because the Rockman's have a spongier feel compared with the LGM's I decided to start riding the Kenny's that have more modulation (compared with the LGM's)… there was no comparison. It is the wet season here in Aus and this has not stopped me from riding. The bite is great in all weather. But when the Kenny's show their true performance is in the dusty, muddy and rainy conditions OR i.e. comp situations.

LGM's are the daddy's when it come to street… super hold with the ultimate bite.

I suppose it's what ever butters your bread at the end of the day.

Looks like there's some clearing up to do here :)

Phatworks have never changed the compound of our PHATPAD material. I've been using it for well over 4 years in pretty much every condition imaginable, and it has always delivered a consistantly reliable brake! This goes for the new, moulded pads too - the same old great material, but to a new, higher standard of quality.

Interesting, Ali, how you've found they've had bite but not quite the hold you'd like on your set ups. I love how my phat setup works - really quiet, a nice swoosh, but the performance and hold I've grown to gives me so much confidence in my brake to do moves most people often wouldn't even look at! They also work far better in the wet than anything else I've ever seen - even soaking with rain and mud and the performance barely drops a notch.

All I can do is urge you to give them a go for yourselves! I'm sure you'll be happy with them, as are the hundreds of riders that have used, and use them all over. :)

Ok, cool. Did the pads look like they'd completely bedded in?

The pads will be quieter as the chamfers help reduce vibrations (this is a good thing!), and all I can put the hold down to is them not being bedded in 100% square to the rim.

All the Phatpads (and similar :- ) that I have tried have had great bite, I think I can compare them with Coust pads performance wise, great bite, but lacking hold....are you using a booster? and I agree that the wet weather performance is pretty good, another reason I liked it when I was running vees.

I've used LGMs,Belaeys and heatsink yellows. I'll start with the LGMs they were pretty amazing but they either need a good grind or need to be ran on a smooth rim, a dead/light grind won't do them any justice IMO. Belaeys really disappointed me, they were okay but I can't help thinking the chamfered ends are letting them down alot. They would be much better if there were normal and the bite and hold would definatley increase. Heatsink yellows are up there with the LGMs they are one of the best pads in terms of value and performance they are like £11 and they are savage on a grind, great noise bite and hold!

All in all I'd say LGMs or HS yellows. When my yellows run out I'm gonna try LGMs again :)
