aener
Would you class yourself as more creative/imaginative when riding than people who started their cycling life with trials? Do you all ride 24"s/streety stocks? I've been sat watching BMX videos for the past half hour - and even the hyper-pro's have lots of lines that are literally on curbs in their professionally shot videos. Don't get me wrong - it's impressive stuff being done on those curbs - but you must be more creative than the average trials rider to be able to come up with all that... Or is that just a perk of the style of riding? I'd be interested to hear from people who are - and I don't know how to say this without making it sound like only egocentrics will reply - people who are good on a BMX, but can also ride a compy/TGS rig pretty well. eskimo
I don't know if i apply to this, but i find trials influences my bmx things more. Trials is so basic in the way of tricks. I ride a short mod currently, but have ridden long, short, big, small etc, and i ride it the same way as i always would. Just with extra difficulty on a long stock for example. You can say we also all suck when the flatlanders are out. They have infinite moves. Edited October 16, 2010 by eskimo

Do you tend to concentrate on going big (I understand it's from a rolling start, in this case ), rather than more... BMXy stuff?
eskimo
You know i knew someone would ask that question. I've been recently running both brakes on the bmx so trials moves come into play. I sometimes go big (for myself) on the bmx, but that's just bmx.

sstein
I ride both trials and mtb street and I find that trials influences my street riding more than the other way around. I still ride my trials relatively streety but I do a lot of brake tricks on my street bike.

flatpro
I had been riding bmx for several years before I started to ride trials. I don't think it has influenced my trials riding style. For me bmx and trials are two different things. And when I quit bmx riding I stopped doing bmx tricks. I still love watching bmx riders and every once in a while I feel like riding again. but when I ride trials I am not influenced by my bmx background, I'm influenced by the good trials riders and try to ride trials like they do. I think because I've done all the bmx stuff (vert, dirt, street, flatland) before I don't feel like doing bmx-tricks on my trials bike. It's like "been there done that" and I've already lived it out .
John Shrewsbury
I watch a hell of alot of bmx videos to help with my 24inch street riding. Also when uve watched sumthing that a bmxer has done u want to find a place to do the same thing on. Or just wait awhile till uve found sumthing to do a really gd move or trick on. Gd website to watch bmx daily is thecomeupbmx.net website which is updated everyday. Also if your looking for a gd DVD out atm, go for This Is United. Sam Nichols
I take all my inspiration from BMX really. If I want to get fired up before a ride I pop on a BMX vid and that always gets me amped. I stopped riding trials for a while and only really got back into riding trials again properly when the fourplay came out.
zoster
mark w should answer this, he has a bmx background and he's really good on both bmx and trials. (or at least trials, haven't seen much footage of him on a bmx) but i think you can just watch some of his vids. he does ride a 24", and he does incorporate lots of spins and stuff in his lines, you decide if he is more creative or not. i don't ride bmx, just 24" street-trials, but i would think that not being able to do pedal kicks, forces you to think of other ways to play around on a bike. i have been riding brakeless lately, and i see myself excising a lot more street stuff, since the trials moves are limited in this setup here's a clip of him and stan form tartybikes: (he's the one with the maroon bike) Edited October 23, 2010 by zoster
Simpson
Well on a trials bike you limited to "trials stuff" of course you can do BMX style things but its a million times harder than actually doing it on a BMX so theres really no point....unless you like making things harder for yourself. Hench why I jam on my BMX so much more than my trials, because its creative and fun, trials is can I get up this? yes i can / no i can't - pretty much.
