Kieran Morrison
Would it be ok to do this and what advantages and disadvantages Slightly heavier gearing, can be a advantage/disadvantage depending on what you like.
Jamie_Trials
To be honest you're best off with 170mm or 175mm cranks, you'll be less stable with short cranks and they peddling will be harder.
Greetings
I've been running 158 cranks on a stock for 4 years now and they're great. Mind you I run a 17:16 gear ratio but I've found this to be a very good combination.
Rockman
Would it be ok to do this and what advantages and disadvantages Shorter cranks mean less leverage. When pedal kicking longer cranks provide more leverage which means less energy for a further pedal kick. sorry for the sciency words. They will also make your bike lighter. I didn't see any particularly "sciencey" words in there, to be honest. Also - to counter the less leverage - just lighten the gear ratio. I don't ride a stock, but I've had 170s on a mod, and shorter cranks with a lower gear just seems nicer to ride, for me. ie - I'd rather ride a stock with 158mm cranks and 18:16 than 175mm cranks on 18:15.
