Bolt Question

so im fitting neon adaptors onto my gu frame

found that the bolt size on the neon adapters is thinner than the threads on my four bolt mounts

cant put a fatter thread in because the head of the bolt wont sink into the neon mount allowing it to tighten fully

any advice?

i thought about trying to get hold of a bolt which has a fatter thread but smaller head

the fatter thread bolt i have is a 5mm allen key bolt

and the thinner one is a 4mm allen key bolt

is it possible to get a combination of the two (if you get what i mean)

or

should i drill out the neon mount to fit the head of the bolt, but i am reluctant to do this because there doesnt seem much material remaing and also it may make it weaker

its giving me a headache even thinking about it

any help would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like your frame's threads have been drilled/tapped out to M6, possibly? The bolts with the Neon mounts are M5 which is 'normal' 4-bolt size... If they are M6, may have to drill the clamps although it won't leave you with much material left poentially.

As it's already been tapped out to an M6 I'm afraid he can't helicoil it to a M5 as the hole is too big already!

Incorrect you can get away with it.

Best bet is to put a maggie brake booster on top of the neon clamps and put the bolt in, you will obv have to make the slot in the booster wider. I did this on my Echo control (the mounts were normal m5.

It can be seen here, this also stiffened up the brake amazingly and the hold was awesome.

I used neon clamps
