Christophe'
Hi Peeps In the past I have manualy rejoined sram 8 speed chains with a chain tool. Ive now bought a KMC610HX wich comes with a split link. Is this "missing link" strong enough/safe to use? Im not too sure about rejoining manualy as the pins seem to be quite mushroomed. Anybody? Mark W
They're fine to rejoin manually - I don't usually run the split-link (although I am at the moment 'cos I've got a half-link on too, as does Stan on his 24 and his Sky), but it's pretty much fire either way. Luke Rainbird
The new style "missing link" is different to the older split link (with the plate and retaining clip) and I'm not too keen on the idea myself. I ran the older style one on every chain I've had with no issues so I'll be digging one of those out for my new chain for sure, but if that wasn't an option then I think I'd opt for pin-joining the chain again myself
Mark W
Yeah, I forgot to mention about that - Trialtech still offer the older style one with their's, but non-Trialtech ones seem to have that weird two-piece 'pull it together' sorta one that I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw it, even though ironically that'd probably be quite far.
