matt.price Posted October 11, 2010 Report Share Posted October 11, 2010 Hi im looking at a new 26" frame.. the current frame i have is the old onza limey 2 frame ( Wheelbase: 1085mm ,Chainstay Length: 380mm ,Bottom Bracket Rise: 10mm ,Head Angle: 72.5 degrees ) i want something abit bigger and something abit different .. can anyone recommend me a frame for £400 and less..? one im looking at is the meta vtt2 frame.. (Wheelbase: 1095mm, Chainstay Length: 380mm ,BB Rise: 55mm ,Head Angle: 71.5 degrees) what differences will the extra 10 mm wheelbase make? and the extra 45 mm bb rise make? also im not a very streety rider ( more of tgs , bit of natty ).. if anyone can make sense of what i just said and can offer any help i would be very greatful thanks matt Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

And the change in bottom bracket height's pretty steep, have you tried any other frame with a similar height? The higher the more stable when hopping on the rear wheel and theoretically helps with gaps, sidehops but won't feel as good for rolling moves. So you'd probably feel a pretty big difference between those frames. Ali C Posted October 11, 2010 Report Share Posted October 11, 2010 well, obviously some people can ride high bb bikes and very well too (pretty much everyone who rides UCI comps) but for me personally, I found it made the bike too rear wheel biast and unless I spent a large amount of time changing my technique on just about every move, I couldn't get used it it and actually found everything harder. I would just fall off the back of the bike whenever I landed a gap tap or hook and I find sidehops a LOT harder with a high bb. It's like you have to jump higher as the rear wheel is in effect lower that it would be normally. The max I could cope with was around +40mm, but an ideal was around 30-35mm (ILOVED my Yaabaa 1499 and my Atomz Premire) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The FANS frames are really nice, plus the Trialtech stem will compliment the geo really nicely and help balance out the change to a higher BB (If you do go for a higher BB frame than your current one, you'll probably need to get a higher stem too or it'll feel really weird). Bigman Posted October 11, 2010 Report Share Posted October 11, 2010 I think that one BIG thing you are going to notice when changing from th Limey is they will more than likely feel shorter, Limeys have MEGA reach (from the centre of the BB to the centre of the top of the headtube) I would guess around 685 - 690mm maybe even more! where as a frame such as the speedrace is 665mm and 20mm is VERY noticable on the reach of a bike! I very much like the FANS frame because it's a nice, simple, clean frame design. Great to ride, though unfortunately this was one of the early ones that cracked at the internal routing holes so needs replacing so I'll be looking for something similar soon I think. It was riding the rocks and Ben's Koxx at the end of that Bristol ride that swung it, but I'm loving the big bike again - especially for Plymouth where things have got verrrrry stale, and there's only flat straight walls everywhere, not a transition or kicker in sight! I'm in the same boat here and looking at getting a new frame over christmas and looking at either the Born, Neon Bow 2.5 or FANS. Coming from an 06 Control so I know it's going to be very different to ride but I just don't feel right yet so thought I'd go for a hike in BB heights. Gonna hopefully have a feel of a few different geo frames soon so I'm more in the know of what I'm after but thought I'd see if there were any opinions on these. I've still got a lot to learn yet but I'm looking at doing comps on it next year and just general bits of street and the like. PS. You may as well be dude, the difference between riding a very high bb bike and an old school bike like your heavy tools you had is mental. I went through loads of frames when I started back. Started back on a planet x went through loads of long mods short mods long stocks with medium bb height then higher bb height and ended up back on a planet x and I'm lovin it. Being realistic (I think I'm older than you not sure) I am NEVER going to be doing 5ft sidehops and shit, old dog new tricks and that, and so very modern trials frames (monster bb rise, really light weight) are just no use to me and I have found I am better off riding an old school frame and doing old school shit. Having said that I am going getting an Ashton frame (the new one) as I don't want to get too stuck on my Zebdi's cos when it cracks it's gonna be a pain in the arse to replace it, also I find it a bit shit on natural which is my main game. Going to a comp on Sunday so hopefully might meet a few more people and maybe have a feel of their bikes, only really looking at something brand new as I'm sure you'll know that getting older means birthdays and christmas are pointless. People buy you stuff just for the sake of it so I just get some tartybikes vouchers then at least I can get something I'll enjoy and use, I'll never be a big rider but I'd like to give it a go at least as won't have many more years left to really have a go!
