Kieran Morrison
Hello! Well, I decdided to start making (well, trying!) to make some music using the fruitloop 9.1 demo. But as soon as i go onto it, its so complicated to use. I made a song sort of thing last night using the 4x4 thing, a bass + a melody and i did alright but got 1 point of the bass too low. Basicaly I have some questions, and I would appreciate some help. Q1. Does anybody have a link to some really good understandable videos to help me make some songs? Q2. Does anybody have some tips for making songs? Q3. Is it possible to put songs made in a demo onto youtube or something or to save the songs to my actual computer? I saved one last night but of course couldnt open it because i only have the demo for now. Q4. How do i put songs onto it, so that i can remix them? For now I'm really just screwing about with it and Alex Rogers was walkign me through a song (the thing that i made last night) but i would need some videos as im sure he doesnt want to spend his time walking me through a song all the time. Thanks, Kieran.
AlexxRogers
Q1. Does anybody have a link to some really good understandable videos to help me make some songs? www.youtube.com/KevWillow7. Q2. Does anybody have some tips for making songs? Practise and experiment. Q3. Is it possible to put songs made in a demo onto youtube or something or to save the songs to my actual computer? Yes, using the export, under file. Q4. How do i put songs onto it, so that i can remix them? You need the remix pack or acapella. All of which I explained last night. Anything I didn't explain, that guy I linked you to on youtube will. Alex.

Okay cheers Alex, I just couldn't understand that Kev Willow person and it was even harder to understand when he was using all that stuff I didnt have. Will you send me the engine thing tonight? konstant
Fruit loops Fruityloops In all seriousness, if you're starting from the beginning, FL probably isn't the best choice. Edited October 10, 2010 by konstant
Kieran Morrison
Lol, sorry I have seen people call it fruitloops and fruity loops so i was confused. Well when Alex walked me through a song last night it seemed quite easy but i forgot everything cos after he told me one thing i forgot the other. Thinik I will practise doing what i did last night (the song i did) so i can remmeber how to use the bass + melody and im gonna mess about with different channels and such. Cheers.Another question, can you make pretty good songs on the demo? Edited October 10, 2010 by Kieran Morrison
AlexxRogers
The demo is no different from the full version, except you can't save, so as long as you don't plan on closing FL, you can make whatever you want. Cool, I'll try and come up with something later.
Dwarf Shortage
Lol, sorry I have seen people call it fruitloops and fruity loops so i was confused. It says Fruity Loops on the program, it's Fruity Loops. Also, good luck with sticking with it, I downloaded it a year or so back, played with it for like 4/5 days, got pissed off and haven't touched it since. I've also used Traktor, Reason, Virtual DJ, all sorts of crap, and there was one out a while back (2005-ish) which is the only one I've actually liked, if I can find it I'll post what it's called, it's great fun, a lot more simple than FL, and relatively good for making music. MadManMike
People seem to download them and think they'll be able to make music. Not so. You need to have a fairly decent background knowledge of music (Chords and suchlike) otherwise you'll make fairly crappy stuff. This is professional software, used by some of the best producers in the world, you can't expect to master it after 5 minutes of playing with the demo. At 13 I was playing on Music 2000 and Rave E-Jay - they're basic, good fun and very quick to pick up. Most people study FL and stuff at college, I taught myself over about 4 years. So start with the basic stuff? I'm gonna take a look at Kev Willow, he has a few FL tutorials for complete begginers. Though I will try Music2000, Rave E-Jay,Traktor etc... Cheers. PeanuckleJive
Get to grips with ejay first, probably the easiest way to try and get into making music (if you can really call placing pre-made blocks onto a board that) If you really wanna make some good stuff, you'll need to know things about music like MadManMike said, which is gonna take some time so best start reading
Dwarf Shortage
Traktor No Traktor! It will make you want to murder something.
aener
If you want breaking in to the hell hole that is the digital audio workstation gently, go back and play in E-Jay for a bit. Then get Sony Acid. THEN try Fruity Loops. The previous two programs will give you somewhat of a better understanding of what's going on. Neither are very good - but they give an idea of what's what, and are very intuitive.
isitafox
Thats what I used to play around on, started with Music years ago, went through the others and moved on to ejay and acid but sadly I haven't got the time for it anymore. Would love to have a good 9-10hr session knocking something together but sadly that kind of freetime is long gone!!
Kieran Morrison
So is Ejay free? I know Acid will no doubt be expensive because all sony's stuff is. Right?
aener
Don't know about eJay, not used it in about 8 years. You can get a trial version of Acid that lasts for a month for free, and then keep re-installing it when the month runs out (again - you COULD a few years ago). Failing that - it's easy to get hold of dodgy copies... depends how naughty you're prepared to be.
isitafox
Yeah acid is pretty pricey if you, ahem, pay for it but ejay can be picked up dirt cheap. Think a few years ago I got I think it was dance ejay 5 or 6 with a disc of thousands of samples for about a fiver from game. Have a look on ebay or amazon and see what there is. http://www.ejay-store.co.uk/catalog.html?pCatId=2735
Danny Metcalfe
get one piece of software - stick with it . learn that one piece of software and when you know more about what you want your DAW to provide then change. FL is fantastic bit of kit - but its not the software - its the user good luck obvs and for trying but as mentioned earlier you need to have an actual knowledge of music. you cant go from acid - reason - ableton - logic and just because your using one piece of software means you make good music - but knowing your software does help what styles and genres are you looking at producing? best way i found to learn was try get a bum file or research different producers styles and techniques and not neccesarily copy them. but youll gain an understanding of thee genre and the desired sound/effect you're after.
