Blake
Hello. I've read a lot on this website that a well set up and well maintained V brake can often be as good or even better than a hydraulic rim brake. I Was just wondering, is this true and if so how can I keep my V brakes (on my mountain bike, haven't got a trails yet!) well maintained. Thank you George P.S. Votes are appreciated, sorry to mention it but this is my fourth topic and i've posted lots of comments and still not had a single vote! Luke Rainbird
Just keep everything well lined up and lubed from time to time and you can't go far wrong. A decent linear outer will do it the world of good, as will a clean rim with pads set up squarely. The inners aren't so important, but before fitting any spray some lube (TF2 etc) down the outers and give the inner a light greasing to keep things as frictionless in there as possible. Let off all tension from the springs, set up the cable length then apply just enough tension to centre the brake and give the desired lever feel. Kept my brakes working flawlessly for years on the trials bike, so should do the job for you
Matt Vandart
Vee's when set up correctly are way better than maggies, imo, dont forget a booster though, it increases hold by a massive amount.
