Laurence--Trials
I'm giving up with my hope rear disk brake its a piece of shit, it can hardly bite and cant hold.. If i put water on the brake it works fantastic. Bleed is okay. TPA is cracked getting a new one. i've given the pads LOADS of cleaning: set them on fire, boiled them, put them in the oven, washed them. I've tryed several discs: Hope, Rockman, and the standard avid im running now. I really dont know what to do anymore.. help me?

I think its hopes that have to be set up 100% pefect and that the slightest angle will make it crap, so check its set up completly square (if thats the word you use for discs?) isitafox
TPA?? Have you tried some new pads? My Old hope suddenly went terrible and I tried everything I could to clean the pads but nothing worked so I got some new, cleaned the disc again before they were fitted and the problem was sorted! Skoze
Check for leaks first, make sure the bleed's as good as you can get it, then make sure the rotor is clean (if it isn't buy a new one) and get some new pads. Set it up nicely, bed it all in again, and there should be absolutely no reason why it shouldn't be on form.

LukasMcNeal
Seriously try new pads. Pads that have been contaminated are never 100% the same! The same goes for the angle/wear of them, if there's an angle theres less pad = less surface area which inturn may result in less bite and hold. Also make sure your disc isn't contaminated and clean it as well as you can! Make sure you don't touch it with you hands (within reason). But number one priority I would say is new pads. If it's still crap with new pads and a new rotor your doing it wrong! What hope is it out of interest?
Matt Burrows
Have you bed it in properly since you've cleaned the pads? The fact that it works with water but not without either means its just not quite bed in properly or theres still some slight contamination.

The fact that it works with water but not without either means its just not quite bed in properly or theres still some slight contamination. Exactly what I was gonna say... All the cleaning, changing disks and pads etc just means it won't work for a good few rides after. Does it make a noise when its wet? Matt Vandart
I had this problem with my zoo sorta. You need to make sure the wheel goes back in at EXACTLY the same place on both sides of the frame, otherwise it will have to be bed in again, and again, and again ........ N.Wood
Sounds like it needs bedding in then. Don't touch anything and just ride with it.
Revolver
In for the bedding in thing. When I put new pads on my BB7, it was shit for a few rides and I needed regular drops of water, and then it started working. Pro tip - go ride down a hill dragging the brake. Also, some say chucking muddy water in there first while going down hill is a rapid bed in tip.

I used new pads in the spring, But they still made no difference, brake has always been shit? How does the carbon dust you get from the pads effect the braking? N.Wood
How does the carbon dust you get from the pads effect the braking? It doesn't, really. I've not touched my brake for about 6 months, maybe more now and its still golden. The less you f**k with it the better it'll work.
