isitafox
I keep seeing pics of peoples wheels with the sidewall drilled and wondered if it's worth doing. How much weight would you save on both a mod and a stock as both my bikes are pretty lardy and I'm looking at ways of shaving some grams off. Especially on my stock as I'm gonna get a tryall sticky rear tyre which is bloody heavy! Also, if it is worth doing the has anyone got any tips when doing it?? It can remove more metal, making the rim lighter and not necessarily make it lots weaker, rather than having a hole through a rim that you land on a rather lot isn't exactly the best of ideas. If you want to go proper mental, grind it and drill it
Leistonbmx
Not enough to make a noticeable difference.

jambo
I bet if you look at your bike ther are much better ways to save weight, dunno about mod weights etc but tyre and tube choice on a stock can save you a silly amount of weight. I often find that a pre ride pooh helps save a bit to.
oakley
No chance, I'd say 30g at the very most. Not even that!!! It really is a matter of grams! It is absolutely pointless. You are much, much better just upgrading tyres, forks, anything really. Post a pic of your bike up here and i bet that at first glance i can save nearly a kilo. Joe. I rekon you're right, it isnt worth it really - and I think it looks odd anyway And, if the holes are in too close proximation - your going to have some serious weakening. Will try and get some pics posted tomorrow anyway, and will get hold of some scales so I can weigh it at some point as well!
