from looking at Damon's past maturity towards his sponsors, I reluctant to help. Though if he did get the sponsorship, perhaps it could be the wakeup call he needs?

Out of interest, what would Damon do for Monster?

put monster stickers on his bike like every other f**ker does "cos th3y r well sik init m8"

If you look at comparative level BMXers or skaters for riders like Damon, the videos they produce look a load better and are produced a lot better. I'm not comparing the riding or skill involved, I just mean that in other sports - that happen to have a lot of outside sponsorship by companies like Monster, Rockstar, etc. - there's a lot more emphasis placed on image, and how people portray themselves and, as a direct result, their sponsors in videos. Every time I see a video by Damon or Tunni I always think about what could potentially happen if there was a bit more effort put into the filming and editing, and how much more of an impact it could have on people outside the trials world. I'm well aware that they "just make videos for fun" or whatever, but if people are entertaining ideas about corporate sponsorship like this then the media side of things has got to improve to either get it to happen, or to sustain it.

This. I always wonder why someone hasn't actually tried to create a video of that sort of quality, like I'm keeping up alot with the snowboard and skiing scene, even the 16/17 year old park rats are using better quality footage and editing much better movies than most trials vids.

Edit: Typo, and just wanted to clear up, I'm not actually trying to insult anyone here, just wondering if its the quality of kit being used or actual effort being put in.

Which is why (not discounting his amazing riding here, but anyways) Danny Mac's April vid had wide success outside the trials kingdom. It was shot by a BMXer not a trials rider.

You look at any sport (surfing, skimboarding, bmx, mtbing, tiddlywinks) and their vids are better filmed with beter footage, better editing, better music, better feel and generally all round more enjoyment.

Do you watch most videos with your eyes closed? :P

Anything i would have said about this has already been covered. The majority of trials videos are pretty awful to watch for anyone outside of the trials community (bar the "woah that's impressive" thing, whereas almost anyone can watch a bmx vid with a bit of thought put into it, even if it's not done professionally, and enjoy it as a whole for what it is.

It's a nice idea for him to get sponsored by them, but given who he'll probably be up against i can't see it happening.

Having said that, didn't Joel get some kind of deal with Monster/Rockstar or something a little while back? Seem to remember him saying how many he drank a day and what it was doing to him/ his insides on a ride one time haha. Then again, they could've just been a hell of a lot of freebies from somewhere...

Haha no, I just only really watch trials videos (no BMX ones etc). But when it was said, it made me think about the 3 or so BMX videos I have seen and I then realised that yeah, it's true.

I used to watch skating a lot though, is it not the case that the sponsors fund/film the videos themselves? Or are there 'normal*' sponsored BMX riders etc who film their own really high quality videos?

*By this I mean people who work a normal job and ride in their spare time, as opposed to someone who is a pro-rider.

I hope what I just said makes sense…

Almost all of them are done themselves, or by friends who film. Hence there being a lot of 'unknown' riders out there because their friends aren't too into filming, and scenes where there's dedicated filmers/photographers having more sponsored riders. Most filmers/riders just do it for themselves though without getting paid. It's just seen as being the flip-side to sponsorship. Equally, poorly done BMX videos get totally ripped online usually.

Totally agree Mark.
