Rockman
Hey people My old magura is pretty destroyed, but it works, the TPA is stuck and the lever is very spongy Just wondering if it's worth buying a lever, TPA and pads, or buying the new Magura, or the ECHO SL ? Any opinions welcome (:

Rockman
not very relevant to the topic but i will buy it off you for a reasonable pric eif you get rid of it I have been looking at the ECHO SL so if I get that i will sell you my magura (: I suggest you buy an Echo SL as my mate has them on his bike and I am jealous Yeah, I've been looking at them, but I heard either the 2009 or 2008 ones had sealing problems. They look really nice and well made like most of ECHO's products.
Dwarf Shortage
If I were you, I wouldn't buy a new one if you can have a go at fixing it, give it a bleed first and see if that stops the "sponginess", if it does, whack a new TPA wheel in, Tartybikes sell metal ones that are far less likely to strip. Metal TPA wheels: http://www.tartybike...7&category_id=5 http://www.tartybike...7&category_id=5 The metal tpa's are 20 times better than the standard plastic ones, sponginess sounds like a bleed or piston issue, the fact there's not many mechanical parts in the brake system actually makes them really simple to maintain with a limited knowledge. I also fitted the braided hoses rather than the standard black plastic hoses which makes a difference to the whole feel of the brakes. pogo
Or you could just get a fresh products lever
George6512
I had this problem with mine at first. All i had to do was take out the bolt for the tpa and the washings were stuck. Take them out if thats the problem. Also the reason proberly that its spongey is proberly because it needs a good bleed.

Kieran Morrison
Spongyness can be caused by frame flex. By your username i will guess that you ride a rockman? Not sure but since quite alot of rockmans are known to be very light and well, 'snappy', maybe if you whack a 4-bolt booster on it, it should stop the flexing. If your gonna get a new brake, get the 05 maggy hs33, 2010 maggy hs33. The SL can only be oil bled, and most oil bleeds feel horrendous. Also the reason for not suggesting the new hs11 is that i used my mates and because of the long lever it causes the brake to be extremely spongy, and his frame moves out like mad! I think its onzas that are know to have flexy plastic-like chainstays, and his is an onza bird 2010 so that might be his problem. A 2bolt booster may be enough, he might not even need one as it might just be a bleed issue. The SL can be water bled, I think it was Mark W that used one a while ago with water and it was alright, it was only one of the first generations of tr / sl that leaked If I remember. Long lever = more breaking power, this bring me to thew next bold statement. You've suggested that this guy used a booster and yet not your mate with the horrible, flexy frame? Any opinions welcome (: Get an Echo TR/SL lever? Then you can start with a brand new bleed, plus youd have a sexy lever And aren't TR/SL levers easier to bleed and adhust that magura levers? SamKidney
If your gonna fork out for a new brake then Echo SL. Best brake ive ever used, but make sure you have a wide rim, less inward adjustment on the Echo slaves than Magura Plus the Echo looks lush
