Moving To Single Speed

Recommended Posts

I currently ride a phase 1.2 and i am looking to convert it to run single speed.

I want to reaplce the rim and hub as well, and do it all at once. What are the recommended hubs if i want to run single speed? Also what else do i require?

If someone could advice a list of products i need, then I can get ordering.

Many Thanks

Rich

Hi it all depends on how much you are willing to spend because there are some easy ways of converting to singlespeed for instance,

The expensive way;

hope pro2 freehub or profile hub or chris king all good rear hubs but the pro 2 would require a single speed kit aswell and there are loads of available makes and models.

The inexpensive way if your rear hub is not a cassette as in the old screw on freewheels go to your lbs if you dont have tool get them to remove it buy a new freewheel like a echo sl or something similar screw it on and away you go.

hope this helped

If it was me (and it is basically as this is what I did) I'd get an Echo TR fixed rear hub, trialtech 15t screw on sprocket, echo SL front freewheel, whatever bashring takes your fancy, and then try and pick up some 2nd hand cranks off here.

If you were to buy cranks new as well then get some trialtech sport forged 175mm and an ISIS bottom bracket if you haven't already got one fitted.

Best go check what parts you got pal. Then we can give you better info. But just a quick info, Hope Pro 2T hub on a nice thick rear sprocket, I'd go for 15T and 18T on front. But that's my choice.

Here's the spec on the bike

MAD PHASE 1.2 TRAILS BIKE 08 Frame: Alloy 7005 frame with prOfessional MAD Team designed geometry and double butted main tubes. Gears: SRAM 3.0 8 speed rear derailleur. Shifters: SRAM trigger shifters. Chainset: Suntour Duro Trails cranks with ISIS splined bottom bracket set. Brakes: Magura HS 33 hydraulic rim brakes. Wheels: Alex trails rims. Tyres: Maxxis High Roller super tacky compound tyres. Handlebars: MAD oversized. Stem: MAD oversized. Finished in Red
