Rob Leech
How do all, I've been thinking of doing my own frame for a while now and have finally got round to starting it, so i thought i'd pop some pics up on here before it's complete Let me know what you think, but hopefully sometime next week i should be able to put a bit of a spin on it, so watch this space . What i started with- Bit of a different headtube design- Drop outs after shot blasting- Frame so far- This will become a stock btw, only had mod forks and stem lying around the shop. Rite o, before i put these up, i'd like to say that this is pretty much an experiment that i've been wanting to try for a while. I know about the whole stresses business, so please dont start jibbering on about them . After nearly two weeks of waiting, the final piece got here today, so have a gander and let me know what you think. And what i like to call "the golden glue" mainly because you feel like james bond when putting it together - Ritey o, been working on this all day pretty much, not a huge amount left to do, seat tube, brake mounts, gussets, so its looking good. Hopeing to have it fully built up by the end of the week, so the next update will be a fully assembled and hopefully working bicycle . So, finally got it all glued up this evening, not happy though, as i somehow managed to glue the carbon in on the piss , but seems to ride fine, so we'll see what happens . Here she is, the first of the JAF bikes frames, the Jarbon- Let me know what you think, me, im not entierly happy with it, but everyone learns from thier mistakes . Have already got some plans going for a mod, which will be a bit simpler, but, again, with a twist Finally got it sprayed up yesterday, would of loved to keep it bare steel, but just couldnt get it looking clean enough, but anyways, its fully built and ready to go! Cheers, Josh. Cheers, Josh. Edited October 1, 2010 by Rob Leech

Are you mig or tig welding it? Tig'ing it up, mig would probably look a bit out of place on a trials frame, but i'm sure you could if you didnt have a tig. Josh. Josh. Nah that's cool, just I saw the mig torch in the background and thought "he wouldn't be doing that!" What steel are you using?

What steel are you using? Lol, nah, do alot of fabrication, will normally see some kind of welder in the background of my photos . I tried getting hold of 4130 (cro-moly) but it ment alot of ringing around and getting quotes, so i just went for mild seamless, should be more than strong enough for it . Rob Leech
you mean braze? Bronze welding and brazing are two different things . Did think of it when i first started drawing it up, but really prefer the look of tig. Yeah, i was thinking the same thing, it might well change when i jig it all up . Cheers for the comments, should have some more pics up tonight with a bit of a surprise . Josh.

Ali C
I am not a fan of curved tubes on bikes, but for a home project I am impressed, especially with using carbon as well!

Rob Leech
The Araldite worries me... Otherwise a very professional looking project! Firstly, thanks for all the comments guys . I thought the same thing at first, but after searching the interweb for quite a while, araldite 2021 came out whe highest peel and tear resistance, which in this case, is the most important function of the bonding. It's not your standard mix with a stick jobbie either, cost me £45 for that little bundle, was looking at over £100 for just over double that. Should have some more pics up soon, im jigging the whole thing up as we speak . Cheers all, Josh.
