NVWOCI WVS Posted September 25, 2010 Report Share Posted September 25, 2010 If you're putting the burning fuel on top of the wood you want to ignite, you're going to need a lot of it to be burning for a hell of a long time before it actually catches, unless you thouroughly soak the wood in something like parafin or diesel first. Fire lighters make sense, but they aren't that hot, and they tend to produce a fair bit of black smoke if they are left to burn on their own. I guess these factors vary depending on the specific brand of firelighter you are using, but in my experience, this tends to be true. If you want the type of pyrotechnics in the new(ish) lakai video (see below), I'd recomend fast-burning liquid fuels, such as petrol for the big flame,slower-burning solid fuels, such as parafin wax to igite the wood, and keep the pace of the fire more consistent.
