MadManMike
Argggggggh I just typed a long message and lost it, so this is a lazy chopped down version... I'm after a cheap contract with a half decent smartphone. Can anyone help? I've found this one, which seems ideal, as I don't make many calls: http://www.tescomobilepaymonthly.com/product-page.aspx?Tag=5c881a6a-7a2e-4513-9d8a-c0e72da803f1 Any other suggestions? Is the HTC Wildfire a good phone?
tomturd
I've been looking at the wildfire too (got an x10 mini at the moment, but its a bit too mini for me). You know its only £220 payg right? £20 a month, 24 months is... £480 over all and the phone will be pretty much worthless at that point. If you don't call much (like me as well) then I doubt you'll spend £260 on phone calls over two years, I dunno. Something to think about, I know what I'd do! Yeah but I don't have £220 to spend I never sell phones on either, I alawys use them to oblivion so I don't mind about the value of it afterwards - my current phone is battered and barely works anymore so I need a new one but can't afford to buy a new one. Reading up on the Wildfire it seems pretty bad, slow to react and the lo-res screen seems to be a real hinderance. The HTC Legend seems better, Vodafone do it for £25 a month, 300 minutes and unlimited texts - that could be an option!
MikeCottTrials
My lady has a htc wildfire and from what I've seen it's a beautiful phone with a slick layout. Seems to respond to touch really well and general gives off the vibe of being a good phone If you're going to get one though don't get the tesco mobile one. Go with Virgin, you get more things for 20 bean a month from them.
tomturd
can't afford to buy a new one In that case: don't get one would be my advice. A phone contract is a huge waste of cash at the best of times, especially as you've admitted yourself that you don't make phone calls very often. Trust me, the novelty of an android phone wears off after about 3 days. I tried taking mine back after a week as I was fed up of charging it all the time but they wouldn't take it back - I'm just glad I'm not paying for it for the next 23 months and I could just stick it on ebay if I wanted to (which I will do some day). Oh a month after it came out, the price of my phone dropped from £200 to £160. I'm guessing by September 2012 it will be worthless (so I best cut my losses sharprish..) Token
Can someone explain the hierarchy of the HTC phones, I can't tell which one is better than the other because they've all got shitty names, why can't they just use the same logical numbered method like every other phone company,
Dwarf Shortage
If you're not bothered about jumping on the Blackberry bandwagon, Virgin has some sweet deals on the Blackberry Curve 8520. http://www.virginmobile.com/vm/viewHandsetWithAllTariffs.do?offeringId=3551709
Fish-Finger-er
mike, im running the htc desire, and have been very impressed with it, think it was running me £25 a month from orange with like 300 minutes, unlimited orange to orange minutes, unlimited* internet and unlimited texts. Ive recently upped it to 600 minutes for an extra £5. my mum however has this week just got a samsung tocco light, on orange with 300 minutes, unlimited text and internet, for £1.04 per month. (well its £25 a month with 23 months cashback) if you could get that, keep it for like 2 months whilst saving a bit of cash each month, then say late october, once the new htc phones have come out, youll be able to bag a desire for like £220ish brand new at a guess, or a wildfire for around £180. MadManMike
Thanks for all the replies! Unfortunately I got turned down for a contract anyway, so that's that... I tried to sign up to CreditExpert to view my credit report and that failed too. I really am getting fed up with applying for things and getting turned down. I earn £1,100 + a month and they won't give me a £20 f**king phone contract? I emailed CreditExpert to see why this is - the only thing I can think of is that maybe they can't track my details properly so auto refuse me. Any ideas?! I dunno but make sure you cancel the directdebit that creditexpert DOES set up (even though it tells you its a free trial). biggest scam ever! caught me out. Anyway, £1,100 is more than enough earnings to blow £200 on a phone It could be that you've never done anything to give yourself a good credit rating? Ever had a credit card, phone contract, utility bills etc in your name?

Anyway, £1,100 is more than enough earnings to blow £200 on a phone It could be that you've never done anything to give yourself a good credit rating? Ever had a credit card, phone contract, utility bills etc in your name? Well yeah, 1100 seems like plenty but it never works out to have much left over Hence I've been camera-less since April I've had two credit cards, a phone contract and all the utility bills are in my name so there's plenty of history. About 4 years ago I fell out with o2, they cocked up big time and that may have affected things, but after 4 years of clean history I assumed that would have been cleared by now?? To explain further, o2 took money as and when they wanted to, sometimes taking two payments per month - I complained and they said they were going to cancel my contract and close my account (Woohoo!) Two years later, after no cantact at all, I get a threatening letter from Wescot saying they'd finally tracked me down (??) and that I had to pay X amount before they would take me to court. I rang them and explained the situation and they then wrote to me asking who I spoke to (Oh right, after two years I'm going to remember the Indian guy's name that I spoke to?) Anyway, I caved in and paid the £200 just to save any hassle as I had no proof o2 actually agreed to cancel it. And now these days I can't even get a phone contract, or even sign up to view my credit report! PS, Max, yup I'm on the Electoral register, moved into this house bang on a year ago.
