I thought it was adam who said they were. Going back to a recent 20" atomz full build thread and someone asked how the post mount moto's compared to the mono trials, someone said theyre the same pistons as the trial, might not have been adam though

Pretty sure it won't have been Ads - we were trying to work out the size of the pistons on the Atomz brakes, 'cos they're definitely smaller than the Mono Trial. Have a feeling the Mono Trials are 25mm and the Motos are 22mm, or something along those lines...

I was wrong, it was infact mr vandart that stated they were the same size, the muppet :giggle:

Its the same caliper

It's actually a very different caliper to the Mono Trial:

Post mount and spring return for pads are the main differences. At one point I believe the Moto had the same sized pistons (or might have been 24mm - Mono Trial is 25) but the brakes on the Atomz 20" are definitely not 24mm or above, look more like 20-22.

Shame Hope are going to force us all to use the Moto Caliper for 'trials' brakes in future :(

That doesnt actually matter as long as they reduce the bore of the master cylinder inline with the reduction of caliper piston size, in that case it just means its lighter :)

Do you know what is the bore of the tech lever is compared to the standard mono?

Pretty sure they are the same, and obviously they aren't going to make another lever just for trials.

Also, post mount :(

The new trial brake with post mounts :( will mean using an adapter iso to post .......................................

the new trials brake is also using the lever from the new race brake, couple to a moto calliper,

nothing wrong with the current trial brake imo.

That caliper and lever combination was never available together, since the pistons in the trials brake do NOT like heat (therefore shouldn't be used on an XC/DH bike)

Is that right? I have my old 06 mono trial on the front of my santacruz chameleon and whilst it works pretty well (apart from the mush/flex) Ive not really used it in anger downhill yet. Whats the issue with the trial pistons and heat?

I think post mount is good, it's less of a faff to set up in my opinion.

It is less of a faff... but it's also less acurate, heavier and not as stiff. Plus if the fork mounts aren't perfect then there's nothing you can do about it. With IS mount, it is more effort to set for the first time. But once you have the shims sorted then you never have to set it up again. Plus you can face the fork mounts, shim it accurately to within 0.1mm and then the brake is set-up perfect. Resulting in awesomeness.

Granted you can get it pretty close to perfect with post mount but there is always the chance of the caliper moving, or the fork mounts being slightly offline and then the brake will never be square.
