Fitting A Bashring

Hi all, I have just brought a new bike and will be buying a bashring soon. As I have never done it before please could you tell me how to fit the bashring onto the bike.

take the crank arm of your bike with the freewheel attached, remove the freewheel like it explains on tartybikes, take the spacer out somehow (assuming you have one) then screw the bashring on, after that attach the freewheel on the cranks

just looking and there is no thread on the bashring so im assuming it just slides on before the freewheel.
