fsfd
Hey! I read the guidelines and it doesn't look like this will break any of the rules. I started a thread a while ago asking a couple of questions regarding trials bikes. As a result I ordered an Onza rip which's riding nicely (received it yesterday). Anyway, the point of this thread is mainly motivation. I've not yet found a riding buddy so I'm going to post my progress and insights in this thread in order to keep myself motivated and I hope other newbies and non-newbies will tag along . I'm not planning to use it as a post-atleast-once-per-day blog. I'll state when/how I learned a trick and how long it took so that people can use it as a guide as to how long it might take to learn trials. I hope people will find this useful! So far I've only been practicing trackstands, bunnyhops and janking up the front wheel without any real plan. I noticed some improvements such as duration with the wheel in the air but nothing much. Also, where is the spell check option?
AOK
I hope other newbies and non-newbies will tag along I certainly will too! Only just started practicing as a total newbie 2 days ago so can't be too far behind you! I'm starting out on a 26 though... trackstands are very very slowly seeing some sort of realisation. Contrary to advice, I don't find being on an upward slope any help! As for getting the front wheel up.. 2 inches??? Off to buy a helmet and some kneepads as I have already had a close call. Look forward to adding to this thread too! If you don't mind that is! Let's keep at it
Revolver
Contrary to advice, I don't find being on an upward slope any help! Are you using your brakes in the trackstand?
6ft-midget
Seems like a good Idea to me. Others being able to post to this thread will definitely help, because some new riders seem to think that they'll learn trials over night and if they don't they'll give up pretty easy. Maybe this thread will help them realize their progression over time.

Let's keep at it Thanks for the response! I've actually ridden some dirt a couple of years ago and I regularly follow my father out on the XC trails. I don't feel any trouble in bringing the wheel up, the problem is keeping it there. I find it a lot easier to use an upwards slope in order to learn trackstand and I'm not using my breakes (am I supposed to?). I definitely would like to see you following on. The more the merrier! dirtyboyfunk
practice practice practice practice practice practice i used to ride trials a few years back and got pretty good, (if i do say so myself) but all we did as a group of friends or alone was go out and ride WHENEVER we could weather it was at the llocal riding spots or just on kerbs and walls outside your house or in your yard. Dont give up if you want to achieve something keep trying and you will get there. Trouble is now im getting back into riding i think im going to have to go away and use my own advice hahaha cheers
fsfd
Thanks for the replies! Just one question, is learning trials like learning how to ride a bicycle? I mean, once you got a trick, is it hard to forget?
dirtyboyfunk
Thanks for the replies! Just one question, is learning trials like learning how to ride a bicycle? I mean, once you got a trick, is it hard to forget? I wouldnt say you will forget it, ive been out for ages and when i got back on a bike i could still climb walls, gap jump etc.. its just the balance and smoothness of how you do it the suffers. fsfd
I'm happy to say that I haven't lost my motivation just yet. The progress is slow though and I haven't noticed any big experience gain in any tricks. When I'm practicing keeping balance I tend to hop when I'm just about to fall. How does this compare to rocking on higher levels? It works well for me and it doesn't need a secondary correction (as described here http://free-du.htnet.hr/trials/faq.html#q3_1 ). Although it may take some more energy. Oh, and unless you don't think I deserve it, I wouldn't mind being validated.

fsfd
Well to be honest I just added another vote but it got you in, welcome to TF! Nevertheless. The last one matters the most. Edited August 30, 2010 by fsfd
