Hi,

Why is everyone saying that Rockman are built like shite? I thought they were ment to be good?

Like 5 people have told me now that they will break really quick because they are built really bad!

Is this true?

Danny.

I have used 1 frame this year (Aurem 3) which has been used nearly every day

world comps etc. I can say it has been the best frame I have ever used!!!

Today we have built a new frame up, just because I am off to canada & will have

a fresh bike to ride, but after inspecting my old frame there are no signs of cracks

anywere etc.

Ps/ yes before anybody says, im supported by Rockman but I telll no lies:closedeyes:

Im sure they are the same build quality, but the wrong geo for me.

Sam.

Thanks :)

This is the Rockman Alkali in comparison to my Onza Skull

ROCKMAN ALKALI

Wheelbase: 1005mm

Chainstay Length: 350mm

BB Rise: +80mm

Head Angle: 71.5 degrees

Centre of BB shell to top centre of head tube: 590mm (23.2")

ONZA SKULL

Wheelbase: 1005mm - SAME

Chainstay Length: 350mm - SAME

BB Rise: 55mm - DIFFERENT

Head Angle: 72 degrees - PRACTICALLY THE SAME

Centre of BB shell to top centre of head tube: 605mm (23.75") - DIFFERENT

Yeah it will feel different, but pretty much the same lengths in all.

There's not much actual difference in sorta structural/design terms between all the 20" Rockman frames, really. The Manus is basically a long Aurem, and the Akali is basically a 4-bolt Aurem. They're all basically the same but with different geo/brake options so if you were keen on getting an Aurem then you were basically hoping to get the same frame as the Akali anyway, if that makes sense. The Akali will also feel a lot more like your current bike than an Aurem would do.

That's what I like to hear, I loved the feel on my Onza Skull. Plus the Alkali is 0.3kg lighter, hopefully makes a bit of difference :)

They are built very well, but are also very light. Personally I consider every single Rockman frame to be a comp frame. If your buying such light components and expecting them to resist months of hard riding you're an idiot. If you're a light and careful rider who looks after his bike, wants the very best performance and is willing to sacrifice some durability then they are perfect. For the majority of riders though I am convinced they are far too light to survive long term.

Do sorta agree with you there. They're designed to be the same sort of frame as a Sky or any other high end comp frame, but because they're cheaper they're basically more affordable for more people meaning that more people can therefore use them, and often use them for street - something they're not really designed for...

I'd always sacrafice durability for weight, but then i only weigh 9st and consider myself a light rider. Just depends on the individual. I wouldnt buy one thinking this is the last frame you will ever have to buy though.

ZOO! are Deng and look at there frames nuke proof and reasonably light.

Including the last 2-3 years? Echo teams snapped, Pures snapped, controls snapped, lynxs snap.... etc etc etc

I had a bad experience with my Maladie snapping it on the first ride, but it looked and rode really well while it lasted1

In the past year, I haven't seen any Teams come back broken, think there was one Pure, one Control and one Lynx. Bearing in mind the amount of those frames we sell that's pretty amazing. Their failure rate is second only to Inspired really, at least from my point of view. Definitely get more Onzas, Rockmans and other frames back than Deng frames in terms of frames broken/amount sold.

Savio's is still the only Lynx I've seen break.

Well being down in Pompey I rode with 2 people who had Lynx's and 2 of them broke them, those 2 people being Andy B, and Sav. Joes Echo team (the white one) is sitting in his garage cracked, he also snapped his Pure, Rossy G broke the white control.

TBF Mark I'm not really going to argue because you its your job to know your shit, just these are the guys I ride with all the time and they all seem to have been unlucky. Maybe its because I rode them and I'm just plain cursed.

I'd imagine there are more broken than I know about, and that's sorta why I was saying "From my point of view" in that I can only really go by the amount sold and the amount we receive back.

You owe me a frame simps!! :)

I THINK I've had my because for almost as long as I've had my lynx now, maybe a month less or about that. The because is still going strong, I've been riding just as much and not much different to when I had the lynx. Andy b's cracked in the same place as mine but not as bad, he got a plate welded around that area and I think it's till going.

Rockman seems nice but not worth the price if you ask me.
