isitafox
I've posted the other day bout my hope mono mini having no stopping power whatsoever so tonight I brought it in to work so I could burn the pads and hopefully decontaminate them. I whipped the caliper off, removed the pads and gave them a burn off (via a hot ring on an electric cooker) and thought while the pads were out I'd give the pistons a quick squirt with wd40 to make sure they were both moving freely. Did that, cleaned them off and let the pads cool then proceeded to put the brake back together and now it's worse than ever! When I pull the lever now it just pulls straight back to the bar and does nothing at all, I pumped it a few times to get the pads aligned back up but once they've moved in a bit the lever still pulls all the way in and does nowt! There's no sign of any fluid having leaked out of anywhere so I'm stumped! The only thing I can spot is on the actual piston itself the inner ring sits slightly proud of the outer edge of the piston but I don't know if this is normal on mini's or not. Any ideas or should I just try an bleed it tomorrow when I get up??
Matt Burrows
Sounds like there is definitely air in the system, give it a bleed and make sure you push the caliper pistons back in.
isitafox
Aye think I'll give it a bleed and then probably stick it on ebay an get a proper mono trial!
JD™
Just as a side note, I don't reckon a light warming on an electric oven is going to have done anything but glaze your pads up. Get a flame on them. I think people exaggerate how 'bad' the Mono Mini is for trials, I never had an issue and didn't really find the trial to be a million miles better
isitafox
Well I gave it a bleed and thats sorted the lever travel problem and they feel slightly better but still don't work whatsoever. Tomorrow I shall be properly cleaning up the pads and disc and trying again, if that doesn't work it'll be new disc and pads time!
