Joshtp
Just got an old (06-07), but mint t-pro.... the cranks creak when you pedal hard, its quite a loud click, in about the 10-11 o'clock position on both sides, so that's twice per full revolution. I cant work out whether its the cranks, or a shot BB. The crank bolts are done up tight... although not mega stupid tight, just well firm. iv never had a Mod bike before, and never had a front free-wheel before. Any one got any idea's? Is it time for a new BB? or is it just torquing it up , with maybe a bit of locktite? thanks! JP

JP ive got an onza pro 09 my cranks creek, just tighten then as tight as possible before each ride and the should stop (almost) you free wheel may slip but it wouldn't be every 10 - 11 o'clock on each side it would just be random so i don't think that'll be your problem hope this helps liam
josh barker
when i had my 09 blade, exactly the same happend. it was the bb, just the bearings in the bb itself. so i upraged to isis; there for bigger and stronger bearings. dann2707
Have you checked the pedals if they're nice and tight too?

By the way you say you upgraded to ISIS i presume you were using square taper before. If so, i believe the vast majority of ISIS bottom brackets have smaller bearings but bigger axles. Which would mean you actually went to smaller bearings. Bottom brackets tend to suffer a lot in trials so first thing would be to check that it's secure, check the cranks are sufficiently greased and correctly tightened then if it continues either ride it out (they tend to stop clicking/creaking after a while) or swap it for another one. Kenny--Trials
I have the same problem at the moment i think. Whats happening is the chain is rubbing against my frame. I have been advised to get the echo tr sprocket because it has threads either side of the teeth.
Revolver
It does sound like the BB is naff. You might fancy grabbing hold of the crank arms and pulling them to see if there's play in the BB, which would make it certain.

Check the crank arms for wobble, if they move alone, its the cranks that are dead, if both arms move alone with the bb axle its the bb thats dead. Take the cranks off, grease the splines and put them back on as tight as you can.
Joshtp
Take the cranks off, grease the splines and put them back on as tight as you can. Hmm, i would but its a square taper, and iv heard you shouldnt grease the taper...?
Revolver
I don't think it matters, the problem with square taper is I think because it's quite obviously tapered, the crank is more prone to coming loose. You have to tighten the crank-arms more often.
Mark W
Hmm, i would but its a square taper, and iv heard you shouldnt grease the taper...? You can (and should if you want to minimise creaking) - the main thing is not to over-tighten the bolts as you'll just force the crank further up onto the spindle and splay the tapers out more.
