Shaving With Safety / Straight Edge Razors?

Recommended Posts

I stopped shaving because i can't afford to buy those stupidly expensive blades anymore. I bought a beard trimmer for next to nothing so I've been rugged and many for the last year. :santa: (For the lack of a better emoticon)

I looked into safety and straight edge razors. Seems that the blades for safety razors are much higher quality than fusion blades and cost pennies each.

Anyone had any experience or use / used them?

Never used a straight edge but I do use a Phillips electric razor, only had it a couple of weeks but its great - especially whenever youre in a rush.

Obviously with these you DO need conditioner for afterwards because it can make your face feel a bit funny. It doesn't get a closer shave as a razor but thats the price you pay for laziness I guess - just depends if you don't mind looking like a tramp a lot of the time.

It amazes me that people actually buy those gilette monstrosities, shaving is currently costing me less than a fiver a year.

Straight, as in cut throat razors are the best, but it's a bit of an investment and years of almost cutting bits of your face off.

This.

I have so many mates (and my missus) who keep trying to talk me into getting expensive razors all the time. I can get just as good a job from a disposable than I can from these stupidly over-priced ones that offer nothing different/better.

You clearly haven't tried one, or at least if you have you're massively inept at being a man. A proper shave with a double edge razor offers so much more than those crappy little disposables. It also turns shaving time from being a chore to being something you actually look forward to doing.

You can pick up a double edge razor kit for around £40, which includes the handle (much nicer shaving with a proper weighty solid piece of kit) around 50 blades (which should last you a year or two) and then the pot of shaving cream and applicator brush.

The blades are made to a much higher standard, the feather blades being exceptionally sharp. Which means far less irritation than a standard razor and they last longer too. It shaves closer so you're smoother and have more time between needing shaves.

Basically after using a double edge razor a gillette power chav ultra will feel like you're trying to shave with a wallpaper scraper. Considering heads for the chavtastic razors are like £12 for 8 and they last 2-3 weeks before needing changing you're looking at around £20 a year anyway. Once you've bought your D.E. razor handle and accessories new blades are incredibly cheap.

Merkur 38c is a good one to go for.

I'm 20 and still don't need to shave yet! Massive win. :)

I'm nearly 23 and am just starting to get hair haha. I started puberty when I was like 12 as well, where the f**k have my face pubes been hiding for the last 11 years lol

Sounds good I might give one a bash. I turn 24 next month so I think it's time to lose the beard and start my life long battle to look younger.

On the back of what you just said, I think im going to try that. If you get a pair of lips or a chunk of cheek in the post, consider that backs

Is there ay actual reason for not using generic shaving foam with one of those razors^^^?
