Straight Bars Or Risers And Best Stems To Match

Just bought a DDG shooter for my mate to help him get into the game. He couldnt get on with my mod so went for a cheap stock bike from ebay. got a good deal, i think.. the frames in pretty good nick no cracks or anything, hs33 front and back, dmr bashring, chunky cranks(not sure on make) ovation hubs, planet x rims and jumbo chrome forks? also came with another working hs33 raceline in a box! all for £60

Trouble is the bolts on the stem are no good. didnt realise this till i tried some hops on it at home. Most frustrating as my mate hasnt been able to ride it yet!

Anyways i was wondering whats the best set up for the stem and bars? are risers better than straight bars? and what sort of size stem should i get being 6"1? Im guessing that you dont need risers with say a 110mm 20 degree stem but im way out of my depth here.

Any help explaining this would be most appreciated

Thanks

Risers are better really, you can change the feel of a bike loads just by moving the bars forward or back.

110x20 would be ok, I guess. Those bikes are more of a jump bike than a trials bike though.

You can use risers with 110x20 if you want.

Thanks thats made it a bit clearer for me, i guess its more about personal preference than anything.

I realise that its more a jumper but didnt wanna fork out loads for a trials specific, they seem to be much more expensive. itll do for now to learn the basics though right?

Im new to the game and got a mod as thats what i saw being ridden when some of my mates got into it when i was younger. I always wanted one, i never got into it then as mum was poor and couldnt buy me a bike!! now iv got one, though iv read that there not as good for street..... I also thought that you cant get as much power from pedal hops etc with smaller wheels??

Neither type of bike is massively better at one thing than the other.

There's proof either way of that, people say mods suck at taps but I know 3 guys who do it.

And people might say stocks suck at spins and sidehops but danny mac used to ride an echo stock and damon and neil both do big sidehops on stocks.

Sure, any bike with working brakes can be used to learn backhops and pedalkicks, and bunnyhops and so on.
