Jackk-08
I think I have a problem with my chain tensioner. I dont know whether it is just because its a crap one or ive done something wrong. Its a fixed trialtech chain tension from tarty bikes. I tension my chain so the chain has about half an inch play up and down because anymore than that and my chain rubs on my frame =/ But when ever I seem to do a big pulse hop there is a massive "twang" like the chain tensioner is slipping on its bolts and thn chain goes slacker and slacker. I had a look at sprung chain tensionors, are they any better? is it something ive done rather than the tensioner itself? Here is a picture of my set up
MAX (M.A.D)
I have this tensioner and i have the same problem i think teir just pure s**t the sprung ones seem to wrork alot better. Max
Laurence--Trials
Bit off topic but wouldn't sprung tensioners like keep 'springing' or bouncing as you rear wheel hop?
MiuSliS
Sprung tensions are surely better. They keep the tension better, because when you just tighten the bolt and make it hold the tension, it usually can't take it. I think you could also make a spoke tensioner and give it go. Matt Burrows
Fixed tensioners are great, but they don't work so well when you have small gearing. That particular one won't work on a 15 tooth cog, you have to run 16T or more. Obviously as you have a FFW its better just to change to a sprung tensioner. Jackk-08
When i pulse hop or just off something and land on my rear wheel the chain goes really slack and hit my frame, just doesnt sound right. And i can freely move the whole thing with the lightest touch, is that right?

WIGAN ??
yeah you dont have to use the mech bolt to fix it to your axle just use the hub bolt
Matthew_Gibson
if you get a cheap 4jeri tensioner and a longer bolt, should do the trick. That's with a proII hub might not work with your hub, worth a try though Edited August 18, 2010 by Matthew_Gibson
Jackk-08
thanks for all your help, Think ive solved the problem now
Scooter916
might be a bit late but looking at the part that bolts to the mech hanger has three threaded holes on it, is there a screw that is supposed to thread in and rest against the stop on your hanger?
