Jimby
Hey, Well basically my brother bought a complete bike the other day, it came in the post unbuilt apart from the headset cups and bottom bracket in place. After building up the bike I noticed the cranks had a lot of play in them, so had a closer inspection and noticed it was in the BB. So we removed the cranks and went to remove the bottom bracket and it basically fell out!! Them noticed the problem straight away, there was a slight issue with lack of threads. The bloke who he bought it from is being helpful and offering solutions and is willing to give a refund, but at the end of the day the bike is what he wanted and has been saving up for so would rather find a solution to over come the problem and keep the frame. After a bit of research he has found these bottom brackets that do not use the threads in the frame, they screw onto the bb itself. so my questions to you is have you used these or known anyone who has or could give advice, are they good, do they work etc...? Please note he is only a beginner so this will not massively be put through its paces. An example of what I am talking about can be found on the following link: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/product.asp?pf_id=16505&src=froogle Thanks for any advice anyone can give. Dan Clark
They work, but all the ones I've seen have been total naff quality.
Mark W
Are the threads totally FUBAR'd? Could possibly run a tap through them to clean them up a bit, maybe? Pretty much all threadless BBs are turds and won't really handle trials riding.
AlexxRogers
Why not try and find an Echo external BB, then your cranks will keep the BB in place? I did this and it worked fine.
