modifiedridah2k9
I'm glad you made this thread mate lol, I am having the exact same problem but i am determined to sidehop the "right" way though. I think main reason i feel more comfy doing it the "wrong" way is because i can move the bike sideways that way but not so much the other way.. Anyway the threads been a great help to me too. Good Luck with your sidehops. Lol. Well keep going the right way cos i was determined too, as everybody that i have seen do big sidehops does it the "right" way. And guess what.... I learnt today I was riding all day all i was doing was practising sidehops, now i can do roughly 3 blue pallets (chub). Thanks for all your advice, i can sidehop the "right" way perfect now and land on 2 wheels. It feels good, as you learn something new everyday. Thanks again, i really appreciate your time and help guys. And good luck with your side hops too "T-Lite man". Edit: I also have a little video of the sidehop that i did today (my bigest one so far after one day) If anyone wants me to put it up on this thread just ask, but i'll have to put it onto youtube first edit 2 : ill put it up on thios thread anyway, see what you guys think Edited August 12, 2010 by modifiedridah2k9

modifiedridah2k9
Here we go for you guys... you helped me accomplish the stuff in this video, so thanks again. So today i basicaly learnt the sidehop, only realised earlier he didnt video the sidehops just the statics, or side to backs for another name. Well the highest wall that i do (the single wall) i can properly sidehop onto two wheels, so enough of this, tell me what you think of 1 proper day of practising... Vimeo Video -> Original Video Pleeeease comment, I want to know if i have done well for the first day This is now my favorite trick
Matt Vandart
Cool... U could side hop that wall easily from 2 wheels, that'll help you to learn to put the kick into it. getting higher is all about practice, but having your back foot next to the wall means you can effectively get closer, meaning less distance to travel to get on the wall and therefore more effort can be put into hopping upwards I always bang my pedal if I am too close. Oi no that's not fair. lol
manuel
Sidehopping either way shouldn't make much difference to height (another see tunni...) But it does make a massive difference to what happens if you don't quite make it on top with the rear wheel... The correct way is pretty simple, you slide down and catch it on the pedals pretty easily. The wrong way and the rear wheel and bike has to drop much further before you can catch it on the pedals. This can mean you gain a fair bit of downward momentum and means it's much harder to catch it / keep it, and not just bail. I found out the hard way and broke my wrist doing a sidehop (there is video somewhere)... I've now learnt to go the other way, which is a bonus anyway, to pretty much an identical standard - about 45 both ways
modifiedridah2k9
(another see tunni...) Yes but tunni is unique and an absolute monster on a bike. I'm sticking to the "right" way now as i am getting the hang of it wuite well

Jason222
Learn it to your good side first, then once you have good technique and can get some decent height, it'll be much easier to learn them to your bad side. I can sidehop 44" to my good side, and I NEVER practice towards my bad side, but I know I can get about 33" consistently. You guys should be calling it 'good' and 'bad' sides, not right and wrong. The elites are good at sidehopping to either side. Edited August 13, 2010 by Jason222

modifiedridah2k9
Having fun on the islands? I ride there every 2 weeks or so, It's a really good place to ride. Also the wall goes up on a slope, so you can practise sidehopping a little higher each time if you get me. Do you like the islands?
