JL !
Hey all I am temporarily moving to care for a family member in a very rough area where there are asian gangs around who will just mug/rob things and people . i have been robbed before and i have no confidence towards these gangs anymore . The police are patroling after 8pm but there is never enough to enforce anthing to the mass number of asians . I lock up my commuter bike in a shed with a motorbike lock which is pretty safe but i always seem to find myself speeding up and going as fast as i can just to keep safe from them , i have seem people get kicked off their bikes , i just seem to think its inevitable that it will happen to me whilst im staying there , do you have any advice to help me stay safe? Also as there is a corner shop about 800yards down from where i will be staying , i will have to walk there to go and get the shopping as i cant really leave my nan for too long as she needs my help , i am scared to go out incase i get mugged or stabbed , how can i be safe guys ? Thanks alot David.
brad1995
I suppose you could just walk past them casually and not look at them to attract any attention towards you. Also you could carry a small pen knife just incase you may ever need it ! Better to be safe than sorry.

JDâ„¢
Order from Tesco online. Never leave the house. Or man up, act normal and assume you'll be fine. You can't live in fear, that's no sort of life.
N.Wood
Cant really help but sounds like you're doing a pretty honourable thing. Whereabouts are you moving?

trials owns
the chances are if you threat them with a pen knife if they are offending u, they will pull something much bigger out and the situation will get sticky.

JDâ„¢
errrrm . ah gang of asian thugs and you tell him to man up , really helpful. Yea, as in man up because it doesn't happen to everyone. It mainly happens to the people who look like easy targets. Come back when you've got more life experience than the 13 year old that you are. I've got 10 more years of staying alive experience than you, so I'm pretty good at it

Jamie_Trials
Well for a start make sure they cant mug you, if it really is that bad carry your phone in your sock. If you don't have anything on you they'll probably leave you alone. As far as protecting yourself, try avoid them when you can. EDIT: If they're that type of person who's like "where you from blud", it might be best to explain the situation you're in. "Where are you from blud?!" Uhm well not from here, I'm looking after my nan- "Pussy'ole gimme your f@#!ing phone now or I'll shank you, yagetme" Seriously... Lived in this area for 18 years... seen the lot. They have no regard for anything or anyone. I completely 100% understand JL's concerns/fears. JDâ„¢
yeah , but it does happen to some people.. so just avoid them if you can ! simples/ anyway ease up dude. i was joking. Just a little piece of advice. 1. You haven't got any experience of 'gangs' or anything. 2. If a 'gang' sees you avoiding them they will just think about why you might be doing so - thinking maybe you've got something expensive on you. Walk past them without acknowledging them but without looking scared and you're fine more than 99% of the time. It's advice, I don't need to ease up. JL !
Thanks guys , Well im used to Hayling Island which is probably the safest island going to be honest , i have to travel around a 100 miles to get to my nan , she lives near Birmingham i think the place where she lives is sparkhill . She lives in a small block of flats that most of these thugs are in most days so i just have to 'thread the needle' and time it right , i dont look asif i am a target i dont think i do anyway . The sock idea is very good thank you i shall be using that now I am 6ft 4 and i look pretty intimidating sometimes but these asian gngs are pretty much fearless in my terms and i think its a case of power in numbers too i will see how it goes next week anyway guys Thanks a lot for your input so far , David. To be honest mate, if you're worried about your bike being stolen then don't take it with you! How long are you staying there for? Won't be the end of the world to just keep it safe at home for a week or so! If you're 6'4 you're less of a target. Keep yourself to yourself and try and stick to a positive mental attitude - but at the same time be vigilant and don't be drawn into a confrontation because one on one you stand a chance, but these kids never play by those rules. Before you know it you'll be in over your head and it's really not worth it. What's more important, swallowing your pride, keeping your face and looking after your Nan - or standing up to them and potentially ending up very hurt, or worse. Good luck, make a topic when you're back so we know you haven't been shot or something haha!
monkeyseemonkeydo
i have been robbed before and i have no confidence towards these gangs anymore . Good to know you used to respekt their gangsta ways. I've always gone with JD's advice- I tend not to acknowledge people that look like trouble and just carry on without thinking twice. Provided you don't give them evils or owt they should have no reason to hassle you. Probably best not to be talking on your iPhone when you go past either I'd say . And yeah, carrying a penknife is a f**king stupid idea.
N.Wood
i mean try not to got through any typical areas where gangs are based unless you have to. Not to be a dick but if you're from Shropshire I doubt you'll have too much to worry about when it comes to gangs. I know the Telford massive can be intimidating but they're too thick to work out how to use a phone let alone steal one from you. Anyways, sounds as though the area matey is living in IS an area where gangs are based. So he HAS to be there everyday, no way of avoiding it. I guess carry as little on you as possible (maybe a tenner to give to them - Some wont stop until they have something of yours. Better for it to be a tenner than your teeths) and as JD says just act as if they're normal people. Dont be scared of them and the most important thing is dont bring attention to yourself. If you have an ipod, swap out the white earphones for bog standard black ones, and keep it hidden.
