Luke Dunstan
So my local shop just quoted me £150 to spray a frame, I'm wondering if anybody has any links on how to do a good job of it at home. Is £150 expensive for a shop to do it? Cheeeeers
trials owns
thats a expensive quote! a car painting shop should do it for cheaper.
dann2707
Go to a powder coating shop. Powder coats should last much longer than a base and clear coat of paint for a trials frame anyway. Should be around £30-£90. Depends on the credibility of the shop.
Luke Rainbird
Buy some sprays and do it yourself. It'll cost you £10 and a days work to do it properly, but you don't need to pay silly money for a paint job that'll probably just get scratched up anyway! Greetings
I'm with powder coating on this one. Painted frames myself and the layer is just not durable enough for trials use. A powder coating is actually really hard to chip or scratch.
dann2707
I wouldn't even glance at spraying yourself if u want a good, durable finish. Do it right or do it twice I reckon!
isitafox
£150??!! I got mine powder coated for £30, although they did knock a fiver off for messing me around!

More like £30 to do a good job, but like said it's gonna get scratched anyway. I'm with powder coating on this one. Painted frames myself and the layer is just not durable enough for trials use. Matthew62
I'm currently doing mine. I just stripped all the paint first with nitromors. Couple of layers of primer to do then a few coats of decent paint then lacquer. There's no reason you can't do a good job of it, as long as you don't rush and you approach it intelligently you'll be able to achieve a decent finish. My Inspired is about to have a Tricolour theme. Can't hurt to try surely - most trials bike paint jobs are disgusting anyway!

the
http://www.armourtexltd.co.uk/cycles.html Got my Dad's bike powdered here for his birthday, beautiful job. Came to around £60 I think. That's the full process of rawwing right the way back up to glossing the frame. Beaut!
club_card
Just spray it yourself it'll be alot cheaper. Make sure you do lot's of little coats rather than 2 thick coats and it'll be fine.

The website quotes for a frame only over £60 just for spraying, i.e. no lacquer etc. with forks as well as finishing it would be around £100.
