sandeeebeach219
Hey I am going to order new forks, and they are cheaper on SelectBikes than on TartyBikes. (they are Echo Urban forks) Should i order from Select or Tarty? Thanks

sandeeebeach219
Tarty do a price match. Ohhh yeah, thanks for that mate, i forgot there. Thanks
Mikee
The Urbans on selectbikes are the 2007 forks and on tartybikes they are the 2009 forks. Plus selectbikes Urbans are on offer and that doesn't count for price matching. So they probably won't match it. I have never had a problem from selectbikes the few times I have ordered from them and I haven't heard any horror stories, So If you do choose to order from selectbikes you should be ok. Matt Vandart
Do it for sure, never hurts to ask. The worst they'll do is say no. But why? They are only matching the price not making it cheaper. If people continue to buy ONLY from Tarty bikes, all the others WILL close. This is NOT a good thing . Why do you think Ben doesn't do trialsmanshop anymore? I use Tarty alot, they are excellent, and this post is in NO way knocking them, but I still use other shops now and again, a healthy competition and a multiple supplier open market is GOOD for the CUSTOMER (Thats you to the thick people out there) single supplier closed markets are not. There ARE other good suppliers out there you just have to look. Trialprod, Dressler, Select bikes, Trialparts.net are all good specialist suppliers but there are other shops that aren't specialist shops that you can get some real bargains from I have got real genuine ashton forks for £25 from one, spanking new mind. Another point to note is that Tarty does not supply many of the quality trials parts that are out there. That is their business and they have to make judgements on what they think/know will sell in quantity and clearly Adam knows what he is doing, but if in theworstcase all the others shut down, what would you do? Buy only what tarty has? That would be a backwards step for trials, like back to the days when you could only get what the local shop had in, believe, those days were crap. You could say that the others should up their game and become better suppliers, which is correct, but the prevailing attitude that tarty is the only place to buy trials parts is not good for the customer or the sport in the long term. That is my rant for today, probably totally unjustified mind you.

Thats why i asked if Select Bikes was good to buy from, because if it is good, i will buy from there. if its bad, i wont. i just didnt want to buy from a shop that everyone (except me) knows is a crap store Thanks
AdamR28
All valid points Matt, and competition also helps us stay on our toes too. Matt Vandart
Sorry bud that wasn't aimed at you or anyone in particular just a rant about the risk of a closing market. Select bikes are tidy, I have got stuff from there and it all went smoothly. I would like to point out that the service is NOT as fast as Tarty the only places I can think of that you get a service as good as Tarty is the massive shops like chain reaction and UK bikestore. On the point of the particular forks you are talking about getting, I'm not sure whether the older echo forks are as good as the new ones, but if Tarty will price match for the 09's then it's probably worth it getting the newer ones. Mark W
Has to be the same product we're price-matching, otherwise it doesn't really work. Those forks have different dropouts and weigh more, so price-matching for newer, lighter ones doesn't really make any sense... the only places I can think of that you get a service as good as Tarty is the massive shops like chain reaction I'd personally like to think we offered better service than CRC, at least as far as my and Ali's experiences with them go. Obviously other's experiences will differ, but from mine in the past and Ali's more recently if we didn't at least match that level of service I'd be pretty disappointed. I never said go for one shop or the other, merely that he shouldn't give up on asking tarty just because someone on a forum told him they wouldn't. Krisboats
whats wrong with Chain reaction cycles..? i might me ordering from there soon? just like to know what the deal is ? Nothings wrong with them, just sometimes it can feel like you've ordered from a robot. And they can take a little while to get things sorted if they fail or need replacing. Tarty, heatsink, selectbikes etc have always put little stickers or sweets in with the product. Todge's fixed tensioner had a hand signed thank you slip in the box. Chain reaction is more large scale, so obviously doing that for every order is less efficient. You'll get your product and an invoice, and you'll get it fast. But it just lacks that human touch i guess.

Matt Vandart
Good point about the want thing Krisboats! All valid points Matt, and competition also helps us stay on our toes too. Out of interest, which brands/parts in particular? Cheers! Adam ZHI, Bionic, Neon (Conqeor),some viz stuff, DOB. These may be all products that you have looked at and gone, hmmm, this is a bit shit like, or this'll never sell but the ZHI stuff especially is really good shit. The Zhi Z3R 2010 26" particularly is one of the best frames I have ever seen/ridden, a few of the guys round here have had a go on Dave Kerrs and bought one straight away, if it had disc mounts or V mounts I would get one myself, it is the best natty frame out there in my opinion, people that ride mod and want to change to stock should really look at this frame because it feels like a big mod, Also I have seen it bashed good and so far no major damage can be seen, the down tube is immensely resistant to bangs. Has to be the same product we're price-matching, otherwise it doesn't really work. I have nothing but amazing service with chain reaction but that could be due to location, sometimes I order stuff from you and stuff from chain reaction to set up a race and see who wins for a laugh (that is how boring my life gets sometimes). One good thing about the robots in CRC is that sometimes when they do send the wrong stuff you dont have to send it back Edited August 3, 2010 by Matt Vandart

I have ordered all my trials stuff (so far) from tartybikes, and all of my mountain bike stuff from chain reaction cycles, and have had no problems with either store. The only reason I would buy my forks from tartybikes instead of selectbikes is because I know tartybikes better. if i knew if select bikes was good, i would buy from them aswell, but because i've never ordered from them, i dont know what theyre like! Thats why i asked on this forum!

Mark W
One good thing about the robots in CRC is that sometimes when they do send the wrong stuff you dont have to send it back I'm sure if you push the limits of price and importance on that that rule might change. Ali got some incorrect items (And some that just didn't show up) as far as I know. Had a load of hassle with some rims too. I had a similar "It's in stock | It's not in stock | It'll be in stock soon | It's not going to be in stock again" thing which played out over the course of a few weeks, although for the orders that went alright they were usually alright speed wise. The free postage is definitely cool though, it'd be nice to be able to do that as well. In terms of stocking the items you mentioned - we stock Neon, DOB and V!Z, but the issue comes with knowing what sells and what doesn't. Having loads of people on here buzzing about a new product doesn't necessarily translate into actual sales, and in most cases doesn't. AdamR28
but the issue comes with knowing what sells and what doesn't And what's crap and what isn't With ZHI and Bionic (same company), there are some bits we'd like to stock, but there is a conflict with Echo so we can't (well, we could, but it would be BAD for our business) get their stuff because of that. Mark W
That was Heatsink that did that, although we've got a plentiful supply of sweets (that have to be paid for ) thanks to the Cadburys charity guy who comes round. Kit-Kat Chunkies get absolutely annihilated pretty much on sight...
