isitafox
Can anyone tell me the best way to flush out my maggie? Just bought one 2nd hand which is cracked so I thought while I'm sorting the crack out I'll try a water bleed, as I'm at work and got nothing better to do, but I'm not sure what it's currently bled with so I assume it's oil and will need a good flush out first. I tried a search but couldn't really come up with anything specific to my question although I did find this quality quote! QUOTE(human_furball @ Mar 19 2006, 08:36 PM) ← Take it from me, I have seen my friends bleed their hose with water and it isn't good, use magura blood thats what it's for. Chris Me too i agree 2 years time nobody will be doing it. Rob Edited July 17, 2010 by isitafox
trials owns
ha that guy in the quote was wrong! have you tried putting it in a bowl of washing liquid and pumping it around the system, so basically bleed it then empty it out, then do it with clean water. like in this video at 2:
isitafox
Sadly can't watch video's as they're blocked at work so just stuck it in the sink with some warm water and it's definately filled with oil! Got it everywhere and had to clean the sink out so will do it again with some water with washing up liquid in and maybe once more after that then bleed it properly with just water and see how it goes! All a learning curve for me as I've never even bled a brake before! EDIT: Just finished it, flushed it in warm water first then another good flush in warm soapy water then bled it with a fresh bowl of cold water. Wasn't too bad I reckon and it feels very responsive already, though I won't know properly until I get it on my bike. Hopefully if it's not busy at work tomorrow I'll have time to fit it and test it though just pulling it on its own when I let go of the levers the pistons fly back into the cylinders with a bit of a bang, hope they're supposed to do that!!
