isitafox
I've just got a 2nd hand 05 HS33 but it's got a crack in the usual spot underneath. Can I cut/grind away a bit of the lever to sort it and stop it cracking further or is it a lost cause?
Revolver
It looks like it's not cracked far along enough that it can be saved. Angle grinder ho!
isitafox
So you reckon if I just grind off the bottom as marked in the pic I'll get away with it? The lever feels a bit loose in the body, will this be affected??
Revolver
Yeah, grind that off. The lever might only be loose because the bolt holding it in has come undone, have a look and see?
monkeyseemonkeydo
That looks almost identical to how mine was cracked. I used a dremel to take the corner off and add a radius and it's been fine for 2 years+ now. Don't forget to do the other side at the same time to stop it cracking on the top. isitafox
Nice one, will be stealing my dads dremel and doing it at work today, may as well try a water bleed while I'm at it!
isitafox
Well I robbed my dads dremel and went at it and I think it should be ok, stuck a new lever blade in as well and tightened it up so it doesn't wobble anymore and gave it a water bleed. Will hopefully get it back on the bike tomorrow and tested, will see what all this water bleed nonsense is about!!
DEZ
thats a really good job , i have a new 05 maggie and its in good nick would anyone reccomend doing this out right to stop it cracking the lever is fine now no issues but just wondering weather to do it
craigjames
Yes definitely, it'd a known and common weakness. Prevention is better than cure and all that jazz.
24martin
will see what all this water bleed nonsense is about!! if your going to run a water bleed at this time of the year i would recommend a bit of antifreeze in with the water, as the temperature has really dropped the past few days and it would be pretty gash if your brake froze up. love the feel of a water/antifreeze bleed, the lever feel is so much more responsive and they seem to spring back a lot faster in comparison to a system thats been bled with royal blood. let us know how you get on with it
dann2707
Going to be doing this to mine as it's not cracked yet. Might just use a junior hacksaw and go straight across and smooth with some wet and dry paper.
