Video Footage In The Wrong Format?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Basically, i got a new camera, Panasonic VDR-D160. It takes 8" mini dvd disk. I had to download a VLC Player to actually play the footage, But when i try and convert it into Windows Movie Maker nothing appears. Im guessing this is because of it being in the wrong format?

If so, does anybody know of a online video converter or something along them sort of line?

One more thing, does anyone know what format it has to be in so that WMM can support it?

Would be a massive help if anybody can answer these, i have loads of footage and cant do anything with it

Thanks alot

Sam

The only time I've had to use VLC player was for some .mkv files I downloaded, All I know about MKV is that it's the best container for HD video these days, Is your camera HD? They might not even be MKV, so I don't know why I'm rambling on....

Never heard of MKV before until I downloaded them so no idea how you can convert them, googled it?

you can play them in windows media player though if you download the right codec, look for the K lite codec pack, every media codec you will ever need

It records to MPEG2 so it'll be easiest to just convert it to a WMV or AVI.

I use a program called SUPER developed by erightsoft for all my conversions but it's a bit complicated to explain.

I just found this program that looks extremely simple that you might give a whirl.

If you feel the burnin yearnin to learn SUPER have a look at this thread. It's essentially the same thing as your problem but with different video resolution and bitrate.

Iv got "Free studio manager" its brilliant. Really easy to use and does loads of different formats, qualities etc and it has loads of other things in it to (Y)

There's also "zamzar.com" for an on-line converter
