New Build From The Frame Up.. Monty 221 Pr

Recommended Posts

Hello, and welcome to the start of my Monty 221 pr build from the frame up.

I bought my first trials bike last week (Onza T-Bird), but i have decided to upgrade starting with the Monty frame i have just bought. From the onza i will be using the Magura HS33`s and middleburn Crank, everything else i have just ordered from Tartybikes.co.uk which includes... Echo anodized green rims, black Spokes, Onza Hubs, Rim tape, Onza carbon Handle bars, Onza Fallguy forks, Onza Stem and a set of maxxis Creepy Crawlers from Ebay..

Everything should be here on monday, hopefully lol.

Well heres a couple of pics of the Onza and the Monty frame i will be using, and as of monday i will be updating this thread with fresh pics of the build..

Thanks for looking guys, and look out for updates ;)

lol yes mate it was off ebay, it arrived today. I have just de-stickered it so i can get some custom green Monty stickers made. When taking the stickers off a sticky layer is still on the frame do you have any idea what i could use to get it off without damaging the paint?? thanks mate

Sweet

Warm soapy water is the best bet probably, give that a go and see if it comes off

I'm really intrigued to see how this bike comes out, I was gonna do it in all green echo gear when I bought it but went for red instead, I've always wondered how it would look in green.

Green stickers will look awesome too, you kept hold of the ones you took off so you can get them copied?

Thanks mate, it should look well in green i just need to find a shop that can copy the stickers lol, if i cant i have a few green monster stickers to fall back on, either that or leave the frame as it is... ;)

Right, now for the problem lol.

I have tryed lacing the back rim, got all the spokes in (I think there right), got all the nipples on, tightened them all up, but now theres 1 spoke thats loose even though its tightened right up and were the loose spoke is the wheel has a bit of a hump when you spin it....

Any ideas anyone???

Cheers

mate, don't run a seat on that! no point at all :P

As for the loose spoke, take it back out and measure it, might be slightly longer than the others purely by accident

should the spoke come out or will i have to take all the spokes back out :( hope not lol

you might be able to pull it out without taking the whole wheel apart if you take the nipple off it, but if it's too long it might be stuck

the thread length on each spokes is roughly the same, so take the nipple of your problem spoke and another random one and measure from where the thread starts, up to the hub end of the spoke

just took the nipple off and the spoke is the right size,, ARRGHHHHH any other ideas what i could be??

Would have been an idea to pay Tarty £10 to build it for you.

Looking forward to seeing the finished bike mate!

cheers guys,, i took the back wheel into the shop and he said it is laced correct, he told me to lace my front wheel then take them back and he will true them for me.

I started to lace the front wheel and had another problem lol, the spokes were to short so i rang up tarty bikes and he said they had sent me spokes to do straight spokes for the front, so heres what it looks like but i dont have a clue if its right lol.. its looking good though and its a perfect circle after a little tuning of the spokes.. can anyone tell me if the spokes look as if there right please??
